I'd say Guardian Legend too but you said you're tired of shmups, even if TGL is half-shmup, it's still a classic.

Yes you should.Retrogamer0001 wrote:But I shouldn't need to use a guide!BoneSnapDeez wrote:NES Game Atlas ftw!!! Got that in '91.
Remember a lot of these older games (including Zelda) were packaged with physical maps. These were essentially substitutes for the in-game maps that would eventually become standard. I'm sure it was much easier to simply print maps on paper than program them into a game. Since most of these physical maps have been lost over time the internet became the replacement.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2014
I think there's a difference between using a map and using a guide - a guide is full of spoilers and holds your hand throughout the game, basically erasing half the challenge. I don't want that. What I do want is some direction and some clarity. There are things in this game that are just stupidly difficult to figure out. What's the point? To drag it out as long as possible? To frustrate people into giving up? I wish I could go back and slap the faces of some of these developers.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Yes you should.Retrogamer0001 wrote:But I shouldn't need to use a guide!BoneSnapDeez wrote:NES Game Atlas ftw!!! So Bushido Blade is a bit different. Digging it.
Suggestions for characters/weapons?

That's just how things were back in them days. Zelda is actually much less obtuse than some other games of the era like Dragon Slayer, Xanadu, and Hydlide.Retrogamer0001 wrote: There are things in this game that are just stupidly difficult to figure out. But yeah, some of those bomb and tree-burning locations are ridiculous.

Agreed. To my knowledge, there are no other fighting games quite like it. (Although, I believe that the team behind it went on to make the Way of the Samurai series. I have not spent any time with those games, however; so, I don't know if the combat is similar to Bushido Blade.)dsheinem wrote:So Bushido Blade is a bit different. Digging it.
Sadly, I played through it years ago, and I cannot recommend any particular fighter. (I am also sure I used multiple continues to get through it, and I suspect you are trying for a 1CC.)

I can get about 4 rounds in, but then there's a guy with a gun which seems unfair.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Agreed. To my knowledge, there are no other fighting games quite like it. When I have beat him, I apparently did so dishonorably and the game ended.
Also, there are only two difficulties: Hard and Easy
