What was the last movie you've seen?

The movie was awesome! Great special effects (the face-melting scene, though the helmet, was quite memorable) and awesome sets. Fantastic acting. A very definable eerie atmosphere to the entire film. And the intense moments were done well..

The story was awesome. I love the idea of these two giant Alien races, one that sacrificed themselves to start humanity, and the other designed to stagnate humanity. The whole thing was just so sci-fi.
It was a piece of shit. That's what it was...

1. Slapstick scene with the worm. The fuck!?...
2. You don't mess with the Alien's design. You just don't...
3. I don't want no friggin' super deep story. I want friggin' aliens!...
4. A lot of things in the movie don't make sense. Like when they just found alien activity, and that guy tells them to go to sleep. It's probably just a glitch!? How the fuck is that normal behaviour!?... None of them were likable either...

It's like what The Chronicles of Riddick is to Pitch Black. It's shit. Fuck mythology. This is an action horror series, not a fucking fairy tale...

I agree. Excellent show. I marathoned the whole series last year when I picked up the DVDs after the local rental store went out of business. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it after the first couple of episodes, but they won me over by the end of the first season. It was worth every penny and more.

Mr. Popo: YAY!

DREDD isn't as action packed as RAID, but has much more action than TDKR. It's fun action and has almost a 90's action movie feel where it does have a story, but you don't care. You want action, and it delivers.

Not to hype it up, but look forward to it. It's like the opposite of the Total Recall remake.

Do I really need to go over why PROMETHEUS is a dumb movie again?

Everyone in the movie is about as smart as dreamcast4eva.

"Ohh, a terrifying worm thingy. I'll treat it as a kitty cat"

"Ohh, something tall is falling on me. Instead of simply moving to the left or right, I'll try and outrun it"

"Ohh, this place is terrifying I couldn't stand to be here for another minute. No, I'm cool, I'll spend the night there".

The movie is beautiful, but dumb dumb dumb dumb and they waste the best actor in the movie. Seriously guys, Future Biff is so laughable it could ruin the movie single handedly.

Forgot the best one: the self-operating scene.

Cut her up, stitch her up with metal stitches, and make her jump like a monkey afterwards like it's nothing. A little 'ouch' and 'oomph' after the procedure doesn't cut it (no pun intended) in that case...

They could've at least stitched her up in a more modern futuristic way. Like some ultra fast meat glue applied to several layers of the cut tissue. Anything but medieval metal stitches...

Sounds exactly like the trailer makes it out to be. I know pretty much nothing about Judge Dredd, but that trailer looked really cool and I'm glad to hear that the movie delivers.

On a self-operating machine designed "only for males" which we are told. Built just for a dead/alive future Biff who we find out doesn't need it. But it is still there. For the reason of shitty writing.

It's a long version of the trailer, if you get my meaning. It doesn't take itself seriously, as it shouldn't, but delivers with the fun stuff. And as goofy as it looks, and as ridiculous the names are, the actors also deliver great performances. Karl Urban is excellent, no doubt. Not that he deserves a nomination, but he is believable and besides the action is the glue that keeps the film together.

It's going to be a lot of fun on the big screen.

Do I really need to temper your overly-harsh read of the film again?
dsheinem wrote:I just got home from seeing it. I thought it was actually quite good...up until around the scene with the guy who shows up outside the ship as some kind of super-zombie...which was also just before a lot of really clunky and quick storytelling (and VERY bad dialogue). The last half hour is great visually but pretty bad in terms of pacing and plot. Being a Scott sci-fi film, I feel like there's probably another hour of character development and story left on the cutting room floor in service to the two hour run time, and I am curious to see if there's a better director's cut which would fix the biggest problems. In any case, it was probably the best Alien-related film since 1986, so that's something.
my more "formal" review:
dsheinem wrote:Prometheus (2012) – I’ve talked about my thoughts on this film elsewhere, and while I found a lot to like in the first 2/3 of the film, there is far too much new plot and horrible dialogue in the last 1/3 to ignore. Visually, it is stunning and approaches parity with Alien and Blade Runner, and for that first 2/3 the deliberate pacing really sets the mood well. When it all falls apart, though, it falls apart fast and hard. I really hope there’s a director’s cut out there that adds more context and character development, as I feel the parts are here to make this a 4-star film. As is? Only 3.
Grade: 3/5
I am still holding out for an eventual director's cut, but I'm guessing Ridley's not too interested in working on film stuff very much for the time being so any hope of a better version of the film in the near future is probably foolhardy. I'd still watch the theatrical cut again, though.

Alright! Going to go see Dredd when it comes out. Though I will be a little sad he isn't delivering his lines in a Stallone accent.

I really want to see it as well. I've also heard it's the first sci-fi movie since Total Recall to get an 18 certificate on the UK (When a film gets an 18 it's usually a horror movie).
