Old PC games are still nice and cheap.

I know.

I wonder if overall they'll ever really go up in price. Floppy disks are quite volatile and I already have a few that have decided to stop working, so maybe that will cause prices to go up. There are a few high priced ones already, like the early Elder Scrolls games, but those are the exception rather than the rule. Hmm.

Are you talking about 3.5 inch floppies or bigger ones? I cant say that I have that much experience but I haven't had any trouble with 3.5 inch floppies thus far, got a big pile of 'em with my Amiga. Modern computers dont have floppy drives anyways so I dont think it really affects prices. Atleast I personally download games from the internet and play them via DOSbox and buy the big boxes just for looks. I've downloaded many CD based PC games too even though in some cases I've actully owned the original discs Usually that way you dont have to do any mid game disc swapping.

It would be really neat to own an older PC just for retro gaming but I dont think it's worth the trouble, money and space unless you're really hardcore about retro gaming. Something like this would be really neat though

It's kind of like owning an arcade cab, impractical but awesome.

Even 3.5" seem to be growing old. My copies of Sim City 2000 and Wolfenstein 3D don't work anymore.

I use a Sony USB floppy drive. Seems to play nicely with DOSBox.

I think there's a lot bigger angle on the PC of collecting older games to collect them, rather than needing to in order to play them.

There are plenty of games officially dubbed freeware, or rereleased later by bargain publishers, and so on. If you just want to play Arena or Daggerfall in DOSBox, they're free downloads straight from Bethesda.

Not that it's an exclusively PC thing (well, maybe giving games away would be), but just more something that consoles are a lot farther behind on.

I've had good luck with 3.5" floppies, but over half of the 5.25" floppies I have are dead. Most of those were likely stored improperly by the previous owners though.

I had a box of the big floppies, that were actually floppy for the C64, and they all ran like champs. My C64 went out before those disks did. I've heard that being stored near electrical equipment or anything magnetic will deteriorate those disks a lot faster.

Hmmm, did some some research and you seem to be right about this... I moved my floppies to another area of the room.

I got some Amiga floppies @ Goodwill in anticipation that I'll someday get an Amiga. Can a Windows PC "read" Amiga disks as all? I'm just curious to see if they work.

I figure I might as well post this here, rather than make a thread about it.

Does anyone else get annoyed at seeing a game go up in price? I think since this is the first generation I've experienced with the view of a game collector, it's a new feeling for me. There's just a decent amount of games on my "eventually" list but as I'm sure most of you know, there are just some games that will always stay at a high value. I feel better by telling myself that I will never have the time to play all the games I want to play anyway, plus I'll be able to work soon.

But sometimes...
