The Darkness II's Vendetta mode

I've already beaten The Darkness II, but felt this was worth mentioning as Vendetta mode, as well as its accompanying hit list missions, really feels like a separate campaign mode that players shouldn't just ignore. I feel like it may be off putting to some as a lot of emphasis has been placed on Vendetta mode being the co op mode, but it's all playable solo. Though, this does make some parts a bit harder. I said more about it here for the curious:

In short, if you really enjoyed The Darkness II, Vendetta mode is required playing. It feels like the other half of the game, and not just something tacked on

I agree. Vendetta mode was easily missed if you usually just play the single player mode of your games, but it is its own worthwhile singleplayer (or multiplayer) campaign to fill in the gaps to what was happening while Jackie was off doing his thing in the main storyline.

51. Eternal Darkness (GC)

I had started playing this game back in 2002, when it first came out. I loved it up until a certain point, and I was frustrated enough to shelve the game and never look back.

This weekend, in the spirit of Halloween, I held a scary games marathon for a few friends, and I pulled my unfinished copy of Eternal Darkness with the intention of just showing off some of the cool insanity effects.

We all ended up getting sucked into the game, and thoroughly enjoyed it...right up to the chapter that reminded me of why I hadn't ever finished the game. But I was determined now - we had come so far! I endured the frustratingly punishing trail and error puzzles, the tedious level design and long-winded boss fights of the last third of the game. I finally defeated Eternal Darkness, and it feels good.

YAY! Someone else played Frog Fractions!

That game is a crazy adventure, even though it starts out like a lame edutainment version of Missile Command. I'm so glad I stuck it out until the end. It was magical and hilarious.

I think I came around to liking this game more upon revisiting it. When I first posted about it in this thread after beating the main story mode, I ranted about a lot of stuff that disappointed me as a fan of the first game. I think I gave the game a 5 out of 10. Few months later I came back, tried Vendetta mode for the first time and then played a bit of the main campaign mode again on the hardest setting to grab some missing achievements and now the game feels more like a solid 7 to me. I actually got the full 1000 for this game, though it doesn't show online as my 360 is currently without internet access. Some games you have to give a second chance to and coming back to a game after being away from it for a while can sometimes provide a fresh perspective.

One of the things I really love about the game is the stories behind the hidden relics in each stage. It's really compelling stuff if you like occult or supernatural fiction and the guy who tells you the back story on each of these items is hilarious. You're hearing about some dark, effed up shit, but he makes it funny somehow with his nerdy, borderline insane personality. It actually makes me even more interested in reading some Darkness comic books as the game touches on some interesting history within the game's world, even teasing you quite a bit with interesting little tidbits about the background of the characters in Vendetta mode
