yeah. i read on another thread a retro store was sold snatcher for like 10 bucks. how does this happen?

i don't expect everybody to know the value of every game, but i would assume if you own a video game store you know to look completed auctions up on ebay.
if you took a shit, please put it back

The Game Chasers picked up a copy of The Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak at a retail store for $5, things slip though.
i just skimmed through that episode on youtube.

so you have a web show about video game hunting. and on the 8th episode they happen to find the 2nd rarest and probably 2nd most expensive licensed NES game for only 5 dollars.

it had to have been staged.

I can kind of see that one happening though. After I watched that last night, if you look there are a couple of carts up on ebay right now for pricey. However, if you look for recent completed auctions, there are none at all. No completed or lapsed ones. If someone only checked on ebay quickly and saw no copies for sale around the time they would have been filming the episode, I can see they just slapping $5 on it. I mean maybe not, but that was one possible explanation I thought of.

If no actual completed's, maybe I guess. Plus i'm sure some pawn shops do their searches to specific like "Original Nintendo Game Fire and Ice Cartridge" and then nothing shows up, "eh, $5."

Or not specific enough, "Contra Nintendo" and they see listings for Contra and Super Contra, then they put $10 on it, next day we see on the finds of the day, "Contra Force - $10!"...with that said though - this is a play n' trade right? I mean, wouldn't they have a guide of some sorts, or wouldn't just ONE of their employees notice a $50 game marked at $2.50?

I dunno. I've been to a PnT where the employee chatted with me for a bit because I was specifically asking to look through the cartridge stuff from the glass case. I've been to the one nearest me a few times and they often look at me like I have leprosy or I'm a bother if I ask to see carts from the case. Once I went and they had 2 boxes of dirty 80s and older stuff sitting behind the counter. They begrudgingly handed me the box with games in it and I picked out Pitfall for 2600 and something else which I think they just made up some cheap prices on the spot for me. There was another box with a few things that were really dirty and a few broken items, but stuff looked fixable. I was afraid they were just going to toss them so I asked what was going to happen to them. They just shrugged and gave me a 'shut up and go away' sort of "I dunno". :?

I wouldn't expect any of those employees to give a rats ass or any effort on anything older than PS2.

You'd think so wouldn't you? But when I end up with a cheap copy of Earthbound, I choose to be happy instead of confused.

PNT has a database provided by corporate to lookup and print out their labels for pricing. So they assume it to be accurate. From chatting with the employees there are a lot of mispriced games.

Off the top of my head:

Ghoul Patrol - 4.99
Metal Warriors - 2.99
Dragon Warrior VII - 14.99

It seems to be up to savvy managers to pick out the incorrectly listed items. For the most part they get it right but there are a few big costly mistakes. Although they know me and kind of check out what I'm buying. :P

I think a lot of pawn shops are over the whole "looking up value" on these older games. There are so many worth nothing that they stick a flat price on all of them. Usually it works out for them and clears out the games. Means you could get $5 earthbound or Chrono trigger. While they'll make some good cash on a $5 hydlide or NHL '93. :?
