That is really terrible. I hope that everything works out and that you can get some professionals in to remediate the water issues as soon as possible.

A washing machine hose broke in my house when I was a child, and I remember it vividly. Basically, we came downstairs in the morning to about two inches of water covering the entire first floor of our house and flowing down the stairs into our finished basement....

My parents filed a claim with their homeowner's insurance company, and - to my knowlege - everything worked out.

Since then, however, I have used the sturdier "metal mesh" tubes on my washing machines, and I turn off the water to them whenever I leave town for more than a few days.

Aw man. That's awful. Please tell me it's something as simple as a water heater leak. Please.
The hose that connects water to the washing machine busted. It's on the main floor, right above where the bar is. Happened last week Wednesday about midnight. I was actually in North Carolina. Luckily my youngest wasn't feeling well and woke my wife up around 1 am or else it probably would of ran all night. Water was gushing down the stairs and into the closest under the stairs. The plastic shelf container you can see in the third picture next to one of the blowers was in there. It was where I stored my controllers. I guess the entire thing was completely filled with water. I was told at one point it might of been better that I was out of town.
I had something very similar a few months ago. My washer level sensor went out and flooded my upstairs. I feel for you.

A family friend is our insurance agent and he told me this is the most common claim he gets. The hose broke at the faucet, so I guess you could say the faucet broke not the hose. But yeah I will be turning the water off whenever we are going to be gone. Maybe after each load...

Hopefully, the controllers were the only casualties?
Haven't had time to go through everything. Most of it is pilled in boxes in my office, but that closest also had all my back up systems, dvds, some games and a few other things.

I didn't get home until late friday evening and after listening to the news on the events in Conn the whole drive home it sort of put things in perspective, so I wasn't quite as worried about checking everything out right away.

Luckily I had just moved my arcade machine because I was seeing how a one would fit down there or else it would of gotten soaked.

I'm sorry King - that really sucks.

I had something similar happen to me a few years ago. We had a really serious ice storm followed by a period of heavy rain. When the rain hit, it had no ground to seep into and basically just flowed into the house. Everything I had on the floor was toast, including a nice CRT and some Genesis stuff.

Hopefully you lost the controllers and nothing else.

I turn off the water whenever I've finished doing laundry. It's a habit my wife got me into - I don't know if she's ever experienced flooding or if she's just paranoid.

Whatever you do, don't try to salvage any of it until it's completely dry. Some of that stuff might work just fine provided you don't turn it on while it's wet.

:D : I have successfully crossed over to the dark side: I price-gouged a game on Ebay. I had a copy of Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II for PC lying around, which is a surprisingly pricey game. I was thinking of selling it earlier, but then I though "you know what? I bet when The Hobbit comes out, people will want LotR games and will pay extra just so they can get the game before Christmas. So instead of selling it for $30 earlier, I made $45 this morning.

I remember playing that game on the 360 when it came out (the 360 had only been out a year or so I think). It was pretty good as I recall.

I'm not too terribly bothered when people who are actually active in the hobby make some profit. It's the folks who really don't care about these games at all and are in it just for the money that really irk me.
