Yeah, played sideways - unreal how hard it is to retrain the brain that up is left, down is right, etc - sounds so simple, but isn't.
I actually got like 68K, but thought my "1" was leaving a lot more room for growth as it was gonna be 1st place on the arcade leaderboard either way.

Just thinking about playing like that is making me nauseous.mjmjr25 wrote:Yeah, played sideways - unreal how hard it is to retrain the brain that up is left, down is right, etc - sounds so simple, but isn't.

I'm off tomorrow. Time to get back to relentless DB playing!

My PS2 copy arrived from Japan in just 5 days... never had that happen before.
Anyway, man this game is awesome. Very difficult though, as expected. Like others I'm just going to kind of get a feel for the game/levels before going for score runs, my initial scores are pretty pathetic. What's the deal with this tech bonus stuff by the way? Sounds like that's integral to getting the highest score possible.
It's sad to hear the game is significantly more difficult on MAME, but I just can't stand playing games on this laptop, gonna have to go with the PS2 port.

I'm still curious if upping the difficulty level in the ps2 port will even it out with MAME. I know that, in the case of Raiden on the ps1, "arcade" is much easier than the arcade, whereas "hard" is just a tad bit harder than arcade. So, most people consider that the way to play.... could have been "normal" to "arcade", I can't remember.brunoafh wrote:My PS2 copy arrived from Japan in just 5 days... never had that happen before.

Sadly, the cheapest copy of this I could find was $$250 (yes, double dollars) So, instead, I'm gonna just try to have Dimahoo in time (Or.. Mike's gonna try to have Dimahoos in time
I have a feeling that I'm gonna be hunched over my stupid laptop trying to play this with you guys.
Boss tech is fairly simple, but hard to do. Basically, in the bosses 2nd form, he will, at a certain point, open his core up for maybe 1 second. You have to know when its gonna happen. The goal is to hit the boss with your dragon attack when his core is showing, and you get like a 50k bonus (could be more for later bosses)
Considering thats about 1/3 the probable score in stage 1, tech bonuses are hand in hand with scoring.

235,100 - MAME
incremental steps! I haven't played in almost 4 or 5 days, so I am ready to sink some time in this weekend...

209,300 - Arcade
Put in 2 runs this evening - nothing good, didn't hit any tech bonuses. Hardest part was adjusting to diff. button layout than w/my ps3 stick I used on MAME.
I feel like some big runs are in the offing. I'll finally dig into this game this next week.
Edit: better score below

Gave it 30 mins this evening - nothing felt solid - not getting any of the tech bonuses I did on MAME :/ But, modest improvement over yesterday.
