I'm glad to hear someone else likes Mega Man 8. I always thought it was a good game and I never knew it had such a bad rep until I said something about it a few years ago. Man, some people really hate that game.

It's honestly no different to me than earlier installments. It got a lot of hate I think because of its cutesier look and bad dubbing. Mega Man X4 got the same negative reaction from some people for its bad dubbing and not everyone liked the new look. It's all superficial. I enjoyed both games. Mega Man 9 actually let me down, not just because it was a step backward in every way with its retro approach, but its overall difficulty seemed a lot higher than most of the other Mega Mans, like they made it hard just for the sake of making it hard

Total Games for 2011: 29

Thoughts on the Game(s)

HL2: Ep1
Again, I have finished it on the PC and just like HL2 it comes across to the 360 perfectly, as a game this is several shades weaker than HL2, just because there is nothing new, it just feels like you are back tracking. I have never played Episode 2 so I am looking forward to getting into it.

Tony Hawk's Project 8
While I feel this is the best Tony Hawk game outside of the Pro Skater series, the slowdown issues in the 360 version really let the game down, you could be in the middle of a combo and have it slow to halt causing you to stack. I have finished it on the original xbox before and overall felt that was a better game, as it actually ran smooth.

for a few weeks in college i was all about this game. besides running and class, my main goal in life was getting all the tricks/achievements or whatever they are called. the one i could never get was the 6 million score combo.
if you took a shit, please put it back

I've beaten the PSX version of MM8 game a couple of times but I had a chance to pick up the Saturn original a few weeks ago.

It's amazing what they took out to make the game work on the Playstation. There are WAY more enemies on screen at once now.

Even more amazing is how my opinion about this game has changed since I first played it 10 years ago. I harbored STRONG distaste for this game back in the late 90's. It wasn't enough like Mega Man 1-6 and I preferred the 7 art style.

Now I am having a blast - I barely remember what my specific complaints were about this game. Mega Man 8 is one more example of the ironic legacy of the 32 bit era. Games that weren't 3D polygon based struggled to get published - but most of those 2D wonders have aged the best out of the PSX / SAT libraries.
Your games beaten list is awe-inspiring. Now that you've beaten MM8 for the Saturn, can I have it?

man, you guys put me to shame. since i don't have much time to game, (maybe 1-2 hrs a week) i've managed to slay:

Super Street Fighter IV (360)
God of War 3 (PS3)

working on Super Mario Bros. straight thru run, no warp pipes, nada. up to 7-1 without dying once. that's my limit. i'll play until i lose my first life. It gets kinda stressful after a while. All that momentum built up and fear of dying and not wanting your streak to come to an end. It's hard to dcecribe, but after i lose me fist life, my enthusiasm wanes, and i can't keep playing. WOW very off topic, sorry

Impressive, but you STILL haven't beat X7

I happen to be one of those guys that dislikes Mega Man 8, in part because of the cutesy look, yes. But with the mixed in anime sequences, split segments of 4 master robots instead of 8, and frankly some boss concepts I simply didn't like...well, it just didn't feel like a real Mega Man game to me, at least not one in the mainline. I have still beaten it, but it's not one I go back to.

Since I've gone back and spent some time with the later editions of the GB games, I've come to see some real value in the 'split' presentation of the bosses. One of the biggest problems in the post Mega Man 3 NES titles is that there was little incentive to use your special weapons to proceed through levels - it was easy enough just to power shot your way through.

With the split boss method, the designers have 4 levels to play with where they absolutely 100% know that you're going to have 4 specific weapons. That gives them the chance to design levels like Sword Man and Astro Man's where you have to use some real problem solving skills. It really fleshes out the game when I HAVE to use the special weapons.

@Stark - if you look really closely, you'll see that the list is so long because I only play games that can be finished in a few sittings. All year long, I'll only play one or two games that require more than a couple of hours. But it means I might hit my goal of 100 games this year.

@SwooshBear - You first.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
