TSS came out on DC? Was it Japan only? That would be a heck of a port :) I loved saving up all my power to send the bosses over.

I did like Dragon Blaze (honest!) I just couldn't see myself sitting down for many rounds on it as much as I would 19XX though. I don't hate them, I'm just no good at em. I enjoy Giga Wing for DC and I have that one. Will be nice to try Mars Matrix too -- only had played the arcade unit for a couple months at one of my old hangouts when it was brand new. It played nearly the same as GW too.

I'll play *ANY* shmup pretty much. Just don't expect me to get a good score on the first run of something brand new or something I haven't done in a while. I'm glad you also have a fondness and appreciation, and knowledge of the older titles. It's good for us to be balanced like that :) Also, being here on RB, I learned that it's not just to continue your way to see the end -- it's to be respectful to the game by going as far as your credit can take you, which makes me a much better player in the end (19XX!)

Ironically, I then ended up sending a Blazing Star to Mike, and it was the first arcade board I had ever seen. At that time, I thought I'd never be able to play cool shit like that.
Visually impressive, full of great Engrish and another one I could get a comfortable length in on a credit. The titles like that I always remember fondly.

I'm still glad I was able to push you to do your best on 19XX.

Can't wait for Gradius to get here -- is it Monday yet

I think TSS came out on the Saturn, Dreamcast, and PS2, all Japan only of course. Some people prefer the Saturn port for more content, but I will make due with the DC port.

Whew, played some more 19xx trying to just get a clear. Stage 7 is nuts, all kinds of random shit going on. I died with bombs when the larger plane comes in at the end and shoots its jets. Lol. One of those, "This will kill you the first time you encounter it" things.

Dragon Blaze is quite a difficult game, as far as bullet hell shooters are concerned. I find stuff like Mushihimesama Futari and Armed Police Batrider much more accessible to start out. I would love to get a Batrider or Bakraid pcb, those are at the top of my want list.

The DC version is best, IMO. I like playing in DC mode with no slowdown. Saturn version is just for fans. It has a fan disc, anime intro, and extra characters but the sound is HORRIBLE. The PS2 version is a different game that plays pretty much the same but with 3D graphics. Doesn't look as nice, IMO.

I own all 3. :P

Between 19XX, Espgaluda II, and Dragon Blaze right now. April I will probably be adding Mushihime Futari 1.5, and the new SotM to the rotation as well.

You're seriously tempting me to break my self-imposed "retirement/fast" on 19XX. Now you're on Stage 7 on a credit? Where's that 6 million now!

But yes, for all that Stage 6 was, complete with the in-game score tally and you thought, "That boss was nothing" you didn't see stage 7 yet.

Batrider is fun even for the Training Mode which does help me to play it better.

Deathsmiles isn't really gripping me. Maybe I need to mess with the default control scheme a bit...

The right thumb stick on the controller moves the familiar around.(360 version)didnt realize you could do that the first couple of plays.
