Hmm, I thought Colors was after Generations. In that case, no...Colors would have been the first exception.
I go back and forth between 1 and 2. 1 is consistently good, but 2 outshines it in certain moments. The last boss of 2 blows 1's away. It has more stages, it has super sonic, the bonus stages are better (imo). But, I think if I had to choose, 1 would win out.

I don't enjoy CD very much.

I like Sonic CD, but it isn't the best Sonic of the era.

Sonic 1 = best Sonic game, easily. The other 16-bit Sonic games are all pretty great on their own account (including Sonic CD), but each one felt like a little bit more of a let down than the last...a pattern that persisted for the main (console) line of games until Generations.
For me Sonic 2 is the best Sonic game ever, with Colors a close second. Sonic 1 is still fun, but the level designs are a bit more obstacle platforming oriented than what I prefer for a Sonic game to have. Sonic 2 realized this and made the levels much smoother to navigate thus highlighting Sonic`s core aspect, high speed.

I think Sonic (the first one) would be favorite. But I don't think I settled on that until just a year or two ago. Sonic 2 is great, but I think Sonic CD is better. Sonic 3/Knuckles... well hopefully TR will help me change my mind on that one next year.

...

I'm still playing The Crew a lot lately. I'm not sure what it is that I'm finding so compelling, but it's really a relaxation game for me. Like I said, more than half the time I fire it up I don't even play any story missions. Last night I decided I wanted to open up some of the east coast map. I drove on down from New Hampshire to Cape Cod. Out on the Cape I went to the shore and drove through shallow sections of water on the beach. I messed up some peoples' picnic by doing donuts in the sand. I found some bumpy sandy roads and tried to see how much air I could catch. Then I set my GPS for Miami and fiddled w/ the radio for most of the drive down south. Once I got down there I decided to make some trouble and get in a police chase. After I lost the cops, I jumped on the highway going the wrong way to see how far north I could make it weaving in and out of oncoming traffic. (Not far). I definitely think this game is just a lot of fun if you play it on your own terms.

Sonic 2 was the game that made me a gamer I think. Blew me away when I was a lad. Love 1, like Cd and Knuckles and am indifferent to Sonic 3.

Edit: The Telltale Game of Thrones is pretty good. If you think it'll be somehow tamer than the show, let me tell you it ain't. Some really tense stuff.

2 is definitely my favourite sonic game, and one of the games that made me a gamer (along with Streets of Rage 2, Pokémon Red and the first Master System Sonic the Hedgehog)

I like 1 a lot, but I think 2 blows it out of the water. 3 I find thoroughly mediocre and disappointing. The Sonic & Knuckles half is a bit better level design wise (Mushroom Hill, Lava Reef and especially Flying Battery zones are fun - shame about Sandopolis, the worst stage in all 4 Mega Drive games).

This. The declaration of love the world has made for Sonic CD has always left me feeling like I missed something. Compared to Sonic 2, the stage design has no flow and I've never played a game that had features that seem so integral (the time travel aspect) that does less to encourage you to figure out how to use them.

People love Sonic CD but I just don't get it.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I've still never tried this, because I feel like it would break the game, and I've read things that point in that direction. For example, going so fast that the screen doesn't keep up. I ought to give it a shot sometime though. I do love me some Sonic 1. Although, 2 has better bonus stages.

Spindash is such a cheap gimmick.

It is a cheap gimmick that breaks the game in some parts, but it makes the game feel like the later versions. Dare I say, it makes it feel complete. It would be like having Mario 1 where you could go back on the stage. Is it necessary, no, but it is a nice feature to have.
