Smile: My group at work is taking off Friday afternoon to see The Hobbit. Officially sponsored, too.

It's not QT's best. Something was just a bit off about it.

Smile: People are bidding on auction items.

Frown: My lack of experience of holding an auction. I should have listed my snes, genesis, gameboy consoles and games, as well as movie genres into lots. Knowing is half the battle.

Frown: Going to my wife's family reunion (cold food, zero entertainment; basically a bunch of people that would rather be doing something else but feel they "have" to make an appearance) and won't have an auction update until later tonight. The entire reunion is basically:

"Hi, I'm so and so, remember me?"

"Oh yeah, sure. How are things?"

"Good, see you later"

I don't get their annual reunion at all. I would love a Tyler Perry-esque family reunion with food on the grill, custom t-shirts stating how you are related, activities, music playing, and maybe even a room where a football game is playing where all the guys meet and complain about not wanting to come to the reunion. But no. It's a bunch of old people in a church basement with a few kids banging on an old out of tune piano. It's like going to a K&W cafeteria, and hopefully no one can relate.

Smile: NFL on my smartphone.

Ugh.... Yeah I go to a family reunion like that every year (my mother's side). The whole thing is basically a series of 3-minute superficial conversations with people I won't see again until the next year. I used to feel obligated to "make the rounds" and talk to as many people as possible but now I don't give a shit - I sit there and eat and if someone wants to approach me they can.

 My digital camera is broken. When I went to use it the other day I noticed that about half the buttons didn't work. It was also coated in some sort of light sticky film, like it was dropped in something. I highly suspect that someone broke the thing and then set it back in my room, hoping that I "wouldn't notice." Seems like something a little kid would do, so I bet it was one of the annoying little cousins, nephews, or other random relatives that visit this house far too often.

  The vast majority of my Tandy Color game disks don't work. However, nearly all of the word processing, paint, dictionary, system back-up, and other bullshitty disks do work. Why can't it be the other way around?!

Smile: Trekked into woods and cut down our tree last night.
Double-smile: We originally intended to do it today, but have a busy day, so did it last night and a good think as we got 5" of snow overnight and it's still coming down in bunches.

Big Smile / Minor Tick: My son is belt testing for Karate today...unfortunately it runs Noon-3p, same time as the Bears/Vikings. Eh...

TICKED OFF: Took a risk on a $10 SOLD AS IS black label CIB copy of FFIX off eBay.

The first disc was in very poor condition, so of course the 1st cut scene glitched up after starting a new game.

Took the first 2 discs in to Family Video to be resurfaced.

There's still some strange white markings on the center of disc 1. Not sure if these were there or not before the resurfacing. Never had a problem with their service before, but I've heard rumors.

The disc won't even load whatsoever now, in either my PS2 or PS3.

Went back to the video store, and was told that their machine wouldn't be able to fix this - apparently the disc's surface had bubbled up? I requested a refund. The clerk apologized, explaining she couldn't because technically there wasn't any guarantee with the disc cleanings. So I was down $5 on the cleaning - at least disc 2 works fine now.

Just dropped $7 on a new disc 1.

So far my "cheap" black label copy of FFIX has cost me $22.

SMILE: At least the girl at the video store was really pretty. She even immediately recognized the discs as PS1 games! *blush*

Nintendork666, I had a similar experience with FF VIII. I purchased a cheap copy where all four discs had been resurfaced. Disc 1 didn't work. I had purchased the game at a location that was substantially far away from my house (I was on vacation or something) so I couldn't return it. Ended up ordering another copy online.

Can white markings be residue from the resurfacing machine? I've had that happen but I was able to wipe them away. I have one resurfaced PS1 game that has "swirls" and looks almost like an oil slick if viewed in the correct light.

 On a whim I went down to the basement and dragged up my original NES, which hasn't functioned in about 13 years. I was able to fix it.
:? Ninja Gaiden doesn't work on either one of my NES systems. I can get it to load in my crappy NES clone (which is a top loader). Time to do some more cleaning, I guess.

:D We got about a foot of snow over night and it's still snowing. It'll be a ghost town later tonight so I'm going out drinking and have adventures after work.

Double :D the dogs love the snow and have been chasing each other around making paths through the snow for me for the past hour and watching them play is funny.

:x Shoveling. The girlfriend just had to buy a house with a giant double lot so there's twice as much sidewalk to shovel.

I dunno, they could be. There was definitely some residue on the sides of both discs that I wiped off with my shirt. Wasn't able to wipe them off the same way. The girl at the register would probably've recognized had it been residue. It's oay though, I already ought a new disc 1.

Discs 3 & 4 actually look pretty alright. The first disc was coated with finger prints and a few very deep scratches. Disc 2 was just a little below average. None had been resurfaced prior.
