What was the last movie you've seen?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Went and saw The Watch last night. Not sure I'd make an effort to see it again, but I thought it was funny enough to warrant the ticket price.

Damn, I wish I had teachers that knew movies like Battle Royale back in the day... lolMendoza wrote:Like i told a student. Hunger Games is like Battle Royale, just with hope.
That is the real difference in my opinion. Battle Royale is bleak and even at the end when people do survive you never get the impression that they won or are going to have a real life. The system is too big.
Hunger Games is the opposite of that.
But yeah, you're right. I would just say it's more Hollywood. Most american movie makers don't like bad endings or something...
But I guess that's what you said...

No, American audiences don't like bad endings. I personally like them. We don't see them often. Hell, we aren't even allowed to have them in video games. I want a movie where everybody dies. Everybody. Even little Timmy.

Everything about The Hunger Games has rubbed me the wrong way, and I'm not even past the first hour.. for one if anyone ever knew people who used their hands for a living they would never look like any of those glittery teens in this movie.
Yeah that's probably it.. this flick is for teenagers. Perhaps once the shit begins there'll be something entertaining to watch, as the film utterly failed to provoke my empathy for any of the characters

Just watched the second Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. I didn't like it as much as the first, but it was a good popcorn movie. A couple of the over-the-top moments were just too unbelievable for me, especially the ending. It was just so utterly implausible it took me completely out of it, but aside from that, it was a fun ride and I enjoyed the interaction between Watson and Holmes, and Holmes and Moriarty.

The Hunger Games is shit.. is the novel that crappy and pointless?

I don't even think Battle Royale has what id call a true downer ending, but its way more grounded. Its not hopeful, its not really inspiring, its just sort of there.
I believe it was Fulcci that said something to the extent that just because people survive at the end of the movie doesn't mean its a happy ending.
Oh there are everybody die endings. Most of the time they feel like cop outs though.
Return of the living Dead does that. Grizzly Rage is another. The alternate ending to Dawn of the Dead (though pretty much everyone involved with that has said it was a terrible idea) Hell isn't that how all those Final Destination movies work?

I'm not at Ghostbusters III level frustration, but for crying out loud, either release the news it is in the works or not.
Ghostbusters III... Even if Bill Murray comes back, it could never live up to the hype or expectations. Let it be~

Jim and Jeff have been pay-posturing for long enough, but they're in. More important isd that the Farrelly brothers are also in.
A big "shame on you" for doubting a Ramis & Akroryd script. I have full faith in them to make an incredible Ghostbuster's Trilogy if they wanted.
Depends on the genre. There are like what, seven SAW movies? Speaking of, SE7EN doesn't end on a happy note.Forlorn Drifter wrote: No, American audiences don't like bad endings.
Re: Hunger Games: Enjoyed the book, was not crazy at all about the movie. Moving on.
BRIDESMAIDS
Didn't find it as funny the second time around, but that is usually par for course with most recent comedies. Still find it more genuine and funnier than the Hangover. Still enjoy the fact this movie has a story to it, and it's not all about girls going wild in Las Vegas.
MEDIUM COOL
"I think this shit just kicked in Silent Bob"-Jay (Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back)
That quote may not necessarily sum up MEDIUM COOL, but it sure is applicable.
Not sure how to "review" this film, as it is difficult to explain the inexplicable. The most ambitious artistic cinematic feast for the mind of its time, may do. MEDIUM COOL is very much a "strap yourself in, it's going to be a bumpy ride" film about the adventure of life.
The film has a Jack Kerouac ON THE ROAD (I'll be seeing you soon) feeling to it. It's a trip.
Go put it on your queue.
