Professor Oak is a great card, especially if you have some trainers that let you get stuff out of the discard pile too. It makes you discard your hand but draw 7 cards. So you can play all your trainer cards, put down pokemon and add an energy, then basically reset so you can stockpile new stuff.

Okay, I re-tweaked the deck into a Water/Electric combo. I like this one way more. And it seems to be working a lot better. I managed to get THREE medals already: Fighting, Water and Science. Good stuff! I'm about 7 hours in at this point.

I’m currently playing Legend of Grimrock, which is a first-person dungeon crawling ARPG. Unlike Elminage Original, which drew inspiration from Wizardry, Legend of Grimrock draws its inspiration from Dungeon Master. In addition to real-time combat, this means the game has drastically more puzzles and secrets. It is also really fun and really, really hard.

Does anyone know, with regard to difficulty and length, how this games compares to Dungeon Master? I am tempted, since I am apparently jamming on this genre right now, to play through both Dungeon Master and Wizardry later in the year. I will be playing the PS1 version of Wizardry since it is apparently the definitive version of the game. It would be easy for me to play the SNES version of Dungeon Master, but I’ve read it deviates significantly from the original. Accordingly, and if I play it, I’ll try to get the PC version running on a tablet. This will take some work, however, and I only want to undertake the project if it is really worth playing through the original version.

I've only played SNES Dungeon Master. It's not that long (like 20-25 hours??) and is "easier" than most first-person CRPGs (much easier than Eye of the Beholder, for instance).

Funny you mention all this, as I've been in a CRPG mood myself lately. I got a new PC and found myself reinstalling a bunch of GOG.com stuff. High IQ genre.

Dude...if you haven’t played it already, Legend of Grimrock is boss. It looks and sounds great, and it is quite challenging. I’ve read the sequel is even better.

If you’re looking for a little CRPG snack, I highly recommend The Keep. As another game inspired by Dungeon Master, it also scratches that itch, and you can run through it in less than 10 hours. There is a HD version for PC and, I believe, the Nintendo Switch. I played through the original, however, on the 3DS.

Yeah I have both games. Played a bit to test 'em out and that was it. Such a familiar story.

On the Earth Temple in Wind Waker, which is where I thought the game starts going downhill. It makes me curious to see if those feelings will remain. Recently, I started Twilight Princess, and I really hope it picks up eventually after the first dungeon. Pacing-wise it does a good introduction without overstaying its welcome for the tutorial section, even if it took me like 2 and a half hours to get to the first dungeon. The big flaw of it was that it turned into a collectathon at its most tedious. Gotta collect all the light from the bugs, and then gotta collect all the monkeys to continue. It distracts you from immersing yourself into the in-game world because instead of taking it all in and having that sense of exploration most of the games in the series provides, this just makes you focusing on collecting. This made me realize how brilliant the beginning of Ocarina of Time was. The first dungeon was the tutorial. It made it very intimidating but at the same time it taught you the ropes.

I guess the stuff we talked about before summed it up best. After Majora's Mask (well in most opinions after Wind Waker) the 3D Zelda games became garbage until Breath of the Wild.

Twilight Princess is a fine game. I enjoyed it, and the only 3D Zelda games I didn’t like are Skyward Sword and Spirit Tracks.

I'll obviously keep going with it and hope the dungeons will get better. The first boss battle was awesome at least.

Still playing Beyond Oasis on the Genesis Mini. I was trying to get the infinite hyper bomb at the secret cliffs, but I can't get across the area with the wind and moving platforms. Having a tough time getting the timing down. Might have to skip that weapon and continue on the main quest.
