It seems to me curiosity is socially looked down, there's a pretty strong barrier against something new or unknown and most people don't even think of anything that might be outside those walls. In fact, you can easily see those walls being constructed just to oppose them, similarly to Nietzsche thoughts on slave's morals.

It's just scratching the topic but I'm slowly understanding why this happens.

I personally love reading a nice, sciency story whenever I'm online.

heres one that I found the other day.

http://www.damninteresting.com/better-call-sol/

I've read similar stuff on the same subject from the link.

If something like this happens, It certainly would impact all facets of life/history.

can you imagine the damages and destruction? It would certainly set us back a decade or two.

I hate to prove the survivalists right though. They are certainly prepared, but they border on the paranoid.

2012 will come and pass just like any other day. But the paranoids will choose a new day to dread. Just type "apophis asteroid" in google. I'm quite sure this will be the 'new apocalpyse' after 2012.

We always want to fear the fictional boogeyman. But I want to live day by day and not fear something that may or may not happen.

Don't fear. Simply prepare.

My family is one of the prepared. We don't know what disaster will hit when, but we have water and food for a few months stored in our basement.

Not sure if there should be blue text on your post?

I dont think theres space in your bunker for your games collection.

we may go back to books and other non electronic stuffs.

maybe the art of conversation will make a comeback.

No blue text at all. Riots, nuclear explosions, everybody in the household losing their jobs, whatever. We have enough food and water to last us a long while. It's simply being prepared. We don't think about it on a daily basis and it's not something we really care to. We just like to know that we'll be okay should misfortune strike us in such a way we couldn't afford/get food and/or water.

In the event of a nuclear explosion I think you'd need a lot more than a huge stockpile of food and water

tv warps our perception of people.

I've seen shows on tv where survivalists are weird, overly religous fruits that seem like they want the world to end.

I dont want to be mean or hateful to your opinions Ryantheslaya. But I guess prejudices still exist. I think that there are people that love the feeling of a world calamity happening and some that will sell you stuff to please your interests.

Theres a sucker born every minute and theres always a con-man ready to cater to you.

I know its not technically the same but some people may share the same ideas are those "LEFT BEHIND" fanatics.

I'd love/hate to see those people suckered by those overzealous preachers/cultist/fanatics. Like that harold camping guy that said 2012 end of times S#IT.

Lives were ruined and we got our laughs/facepalms.

But what makes all this even more twilight zone/crazy S#IT is that if you're right RYANTHESLAYA. You and your family will be sniping us "non-preparers" with your guns as we try to steal your food supplies from you and your tribe.

see you at the end of the world man!

Haha. Well to be honest, it's not really my stash (didn't even know about it for a few months after they started), it's my father's and his girlfriend (mostly his overly paranoid girlfriend). I don't really think it's that necessary, but it doesn't hurt having all that stuff stored no? It would certainly be nice should we all for whatever reason find ourselves out of work for whatever reason.

I certainly don't want anything bad to happen. It's like having an airbag in a car. You never want it to be used but in the event that it's needed you'll probably be glad it's there.

If civilization were to collapse, I think I'd be ok. I've been gardening since I was 7, and I've got plenty of seeds in my basement. My mom has a small flock of chicken, my neighbors have tons of guns and ammo, and I live in a rural area with plenty of animals. Life would be tougher for sure but I'm confident I'd survive.

Of course, that's ignoring the fact that I live an hour from a nuclear power plant.

So Romney picked Paul Ryan. Very good choice IMO.
