Zelda Breath of the Wild - Wii U vs. Switch
Re: Zelda Breath of the Wild - Wii U vs. Switch
I thought Zelda's voice acting was just fine. Is there some other game in the series where it is considered better? I've always preferred the 2D games in the series (by far) until this one...in part because I thought the other 3D Zelda games had horrendously grating voice acting.

Care to explain this one? I don't understand.dsheinem wrote:I thought Zelda's voice acting was just fine. Is there some other game in the series where it is considered better? This is the only entry with full voice acting, with the other ones just having NPcs go 'Ahh' and 'oooh' and whatnot. I'd understand if that bugs you, but...they still do that in BOTW?
That said, link shouts less. Perhaps that's what you mean?

Hey! Link!
Hey! Link!
the grunts and groans were more frustrating, too...

I wound up getting the Ancient set and upgrading it a bit. The set bonus is, I think, +80% damage with Ancient weapons, which I figured would make the most out of the Ancient arrows, plus the DEF is nice. Probably not a must-have in any case, but it was effective for Ganon.Xeogred wrote: Now... to come up with those rupees. I guess I'll just sell tons of ore. I didn't realize the Ancient Gear required lots of rupees too. I wonder if I should even bother? Guardians are pretty easy as is late game here.
Technically, you can kick the crap out of Guardians naked, with a basic shield, if you can get the parry timing down (or just save between them and reload if you mess up).

I will go one step further and say that it's great VO and I wish Link was voiced as well. Come at me ya nerds!dsheinem wrote:I thought Zelda's voice acting was just fine. I dug the voices as well. Only one I didn't really enjoy was Daruk. He sounded a little... off. Zelda definitely had the uncertain, vulnerable, scared voice that fit her very very well! I loved it!Stark wrote:I will go one step further and say that it's great VO and I wish Link was voiced as well. Come at me ya nerds!dsheinem wrote:I thought Zelda's voice acting was just fine. Personally, I find the voice acting in BotW to be kind of ham-fisted and very awkward sounding. Most of the voices don't sound like they fit the characters that they are coming out of.
And I wince every time I hear Zelda speak.
I don't mind the concept of a fully voice acted Zelda at all (though I would prefer Link to remain un-voice acted). I just think it's the weakest part of this otherwise fantastic game.

Much like the franchise as a whole, I guess the voice acting is just as divisive.

I know that's sarcasm but recently I had my hearing tested and it's above average so no, I'm good. I just don't have a problem with the voice at all. I just relistened to it in a youtube cut within the last few hours on a video that was setup (beta64) for game changes. She's fine. I've heard wooden, stilted, totally wrong sounding stuff before, some obvious, some not until context (say Japan vs English actors) but no Zelda is fine. You just personally dislike it, but that doesn't make it wrong or broken.Xeogred wrote:Perfectly fine? Time to get your hearing aid checked out.
As meat said, divisive I guess. Like anyone will as a total group find any voice acting in anything from games, anime, whatever all likeable.

Looks like I'm at about 80 hours, phew... 70 is my normal threshold. About how long would you guys say Hyrule Castle and Ganon takes? I've explored some of the outside area while finding the one memory there.
Might take a little breather and hold off for a few days since I just marathoned the heck out of the game over this vacation haha.
