I put spirit tracks as the worst Zelda (official) game for the fact that it forces you to blow into your mic, which I could never get to work and ended looking like an asshat.

The FDS version of Zelda required you to do that aswell.

Oracle of Ages and Seasons are quite incredible. They're my favorite handheld Zelda among Link's Awakening.

Symphony is cool. I really want to just roll through it, but my game time is limited to maybe an hour a day. The game seems oddly easy, even the bosses don't put up much of a challenge. From what I recall most Castlevania games are supposed to be tough.

I've found that I "discovered" a few spells simply by mashing buttons. Weird.

And using up+attack to throw the secondary weapon is somewhat annoying. I'm sure it works better on the PSX controller, but on the Xbox 360 I find that it's way too easy to press up by accident.

SoTN isn't hard, no, but it does make it a lot more accessible.

Order of Ecclesia is much more challenging if you enjoy the style, though that one isn't all connected as one big area/castle.

I don't own too many Castlevania titles unfortunately. But I think I will want to play some more once SotN is done with. I have:
Castlevania (N64)
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA)
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (Xbox)
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (PSP)

I know the N64 game gets a lot of bad press, but I dig games from that era/console so I'm really interested in trying it out. The GBA and PSP games look quite interesting as well. Don't know much about Curse of Darkness.

Curse of Darkness (PS2/Xbox) is better than Lament of Innocence (PS2), which, in turn, is better than either Castlevania (N64) or Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness (N64). IMO, however, one of them are as good as even the weakest games in the 2D series (excluding, of course, the execrable Castlevania: The Adventure (GB) and Castlevania Legends (GB)).

You must play Aria of Sorrow, by far my favorite Castlevania game. Its Like SOTN but with a bit of the catch em all of Pokemon, killing monsters sometimes releases a soul unique to that monster that gives you a special ability. It is so addictive collecting all the souls and trying all the special abilities.

I second this. All of the DS games are incredibly solid. Order of Ecclesia is probably my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

I still need to play the DS ones, but he should play Aria first on the GBA because Dawn of Sorrow on the DS is a direct sequel
