Why is it so hard for Israel to see that they are playing into Hamas' hand more and more with every Palestinian civilian they butcher? The solution to the problem of Hamas and Palestine is a socioeconomic one. This can't be solved with guns and fighter aircraft.

Well... it can, it just requires a lot more dead bodies than anyone is willing to accept (Israel included).

I'm pretty sure moving everyone out then nuking the whole area would work. It would also stop those weirdos that keep giving money to help build Jewish settlements in Palestinian land because they want to world to end.

Actually no it wasn't, people don't give a fuck about other countries anymore. This era is reminding me more and more of the post-WW1 world.

I don't claim to be aware of the history of tolerance in the Levant/Mesopotamia, but considering Mosul had the oldest Christian community in the region and the Yazidi faith survived so long just goes to show how much of an aberration this ISIS phenomenon is.

^Yeah.

I remember the first time I'd noticed that someone had changed the name of this thread without giving me a heads up. I was a little irked. Now I think it was the most appropriate thing to do.

I'm really, really hoping that what's going on in Ferguson is an isolated situation. The town has historically had racial tension issues in large part due to the town's large non-white population and the lack of sufficient representation in town's predominantly white police force.

What's going on Ferguson is terrifying. A police force is turning itself into a small army and disobeying people's Constitutional rights.

Arresting reporters, throwing tear gas at tv reporters, not allowing any streaming of the events, scare tactics, and making the area a no fly zone. Insane.

Finally, vindication a year later after you guys chewed me out for this. Your welcome.

I believe so. I think most of the country is reacting to this with horror. I don't know the circumstances about the initial flashpoint(a teenager was shot and killed by a police officer, but some folks are claiming he had a weapon and was fighting while others claim he was unarmed and compliant? That is all I have gathered), but regardless of one's views, this has swiftly fallen into madness.

And no, arresting journalists is never a good idea.

How many times in history, had those who were once persecuted, become persecutors of their own accord?

The Scottish Independence yes movement is gaining a bit of momentum as we get closer to the vote. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/aug/22/scottish-independence-1m-voters-sign-declaration

Personally I still think the YES vote is a bad idea for Scotland's future but whatever, not for me to decide. I suspect that even if the No vote wins, it'll be close enough to force measures akin to devolution max in the near future anyway.

We are the sheep and it seems anything of importance is happening behind closed doors.
