Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Today's bike ride was naturetastic, though amusingly only at the end. So I rode over the reservoir hill and into the (very loosely qualified) park over there, then headed off the official trail off into the sticks. Lots of 1 inch cracks in the ground once I got away from the ponds as it's been really dry here for months. Just a flock of swifts overhead while I was out away from everything. However when I was on my way out and at the exit, there was a 4 1/2 foot dark snake that took off as I approached, I didn't see what kind it was. Also there was a 5 inch or so tarantula crossing the path right at the entrance. I don't think I've ever seen a tarantula in the wild before. I hung around and watched it until it was across the path to make sure that nobody accidentally squashed or messed with it.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
how far did you ride for, hobie?
i can't even imagine running a tarantula over with a bike. it just doesn't seem like you would smoothly ride over it.

...Well, maybe not, but that's how I picture it, disturbed by spiders as I am.

I don't know exactly. I don't have a meter on my bike and I'm way out of riding practice. Probably in the 3-5 mile range, same as last week.final fight cd wrote:how far did you ride for, hobie?

There were people out walking and some had dogs too. I just wanted to watch it for a bit and make sure that nobody came along and messed with it.

I would have gone around. Way the hell around. Like 10, 20 feet (maybe miles).BoringSupreez wrote:I would have on purposely smashed it. I hate those things.
Probably would kept looking over my shoulder afterwards too, to make sure it wasn't following me so it could jump down my throat and lay eggs in my stomach.
Freaky little bastards.

I can also imagine a whole lot of baby spiders exploding outwards. Don't ask me why, I'm twisted.CFFJR wrote:It would pop and splash your leg.final fight cd wrote:how far did you ride for, hobie?

I have not seen Foster's in a long, LONG time, so I really don't know how I'd feel about it now. From what I remember, though, it wasn't as good as Craig McCracken's previous show (Powerpuff Girls) but I didn't hate it.BoringSupreez wrote:Watched two shows on DVD recently: Johnny Bravo and Foster's Home for etc whatever. Johnny was as funny as I remembered him being, but Foster was just plain lame. I have no idea how there's so much love for it. Maybe because there was almost nothing good to compare it against when it was running. Anyway, the characters were annoying, sappy, and did I say annoying? Light on the humor too. Only made it through the first 4 episodes, then I decided that my time would be better spent doing, well, pretty much anything else. Plus, I HATED the animation style. I like a more "raw", hand-drawn look to things. Anyone else dislike this show?
I don't think it's worth faulting the animation style though. Using flash is a cost-cutting thing, and I think Foster's looks a LOT better than most flash animated shows.

First, yes, it was definitely a step down from PPG. I could certainly see McCracken's style in it, but it just wasn't anywhere near as good. Don't know what went wrong. Probably the same thing that caused Joe Murray to go from making the great Rocko's Modern Life to making the mediocre Camp Lazlo.AppleQueso wrote:I have not seen Foster's in a long, LONG time, so I really don't know how I'd feel about it now. Second, yes, Foster's animation is better than a lot of other flash shows, but I don't like flash, even well-done flash. And the constant 3D, or pseudo-3D, or whatever they were effects really bugged me.
But hey, at least they're not making any new episodes anymore. Maybe the creator will make something worthwhile again. Speaking of unemployed creators, what has Steven Hillenburg been doing the last few years? Living off his riches or something?
