Nah, Wayne was getting repossessed as the movie kept telling over and over again. Characters and Newspapers remind us "He's Broke!" about ten times in three minutes. Why he's broke other than one or two financial decisions isn't really cleared up. Just happens for the convenience of the movie.

I could see how the Talia reveal could be a surprise, but I thought it was telegraphed. Maybe I read into the movie a bit, but I thought it was obvious. Put that on the "Luke over thinks things" scoreboard.

I like the Scarecrow reference because it wasn't really a Scarecrow reference. It didn't seem shoehorned in, just a nod to an great actor.

I can not say the cops running with either guns, or usually batons shouting "argh!" at a mob did not made me laugh out loud. The scene was pretty silly, and Batman just walking around made no sense. But then again Batman walks around a lot in Rises.

Batman gives a cop he's known for minutes all of what is left of the Batcave, and doesn't tell Gordon a drop in the bucket? Dumb.

Mom, Dad, Dent, Rachel. You don't see those deaths more impacting than...a fake death? Those lives mattered. They molded Batman, and the countless deaths from Ras and The Joker were executed only because the Batman existed.

For whatever reason, those deaths didn't get much emotional response from me. I've always felt like nolans characters were just pawns in a game of entertainment. I can't really say why, thats just how I've felt. But I connected more with bruce in this one, and his relationship with alfred.

Alfred does everything opposite of what his character was based on in the first two movies. Plus, there is basically no relationship whatsoever with Bruce and Alfred in Rises.

Alfred: Stop.

Bruce: Nuh-uh.

Alfred: I'm out.

Same with Bruce; forget the other two movies except for flashbacks. All new character that doesn't act like he used to.

Bruce: Batman died with Rachel.

Alfred: That's not what the Batman stood for.

Bruce: Nuh-uh,

Alfred: I'm out.

Bruce: Fine. I have a ten thousand square foot house with all types of help...wait? Where the fuck did everyone go? Why didn't I notice?

How did alfred change exactly? Although I do agree that Bruce's first jump back into action was a little flimsy. The movie was long enough, but it would have helped if we saw bane cause some chaos in gotham first, instead of bruce just hearing "theres a new villain in town, I better get ready".

More like just outright nitpicking. It's not like Nolan's Batman movies (or hell, Nolan movies in general) aren't all already easy enough to nitpick, but you seem outright determined at this point to make sure nobody here likes the movie without you hoping you can knock it down a peg for them.

Many of the nitpicks aren't even accurate anyway.

The "change" in Alfred/Bruce's character seems pretty consistent with what I would expect from them. It is picking up 8 years into Bruce's self-imposed exile, after all.

I like ya, Luke, but man you're just way off on this.

I'm not saying the movie doesn't have some issues, because it does, but it's greater than the sum of its parts.

Seriously, very, very little Batman in a Batman movie. Is that too much to ask? The crux is that Nolan has tried to make a "real" Batman in the other films, and it seems real. Rises is dull and doesn't suspend disbelief with all the plot holes and clumsy writing.

It's by far the worst of the trilogy by a mile in my eyes. Completely unbelievable.

Pretty sure the bat-suit is on screen at least as much as it was in Begins. I kinda feel like I'm hearing the BB complaints all over again. Right down to the "it's dull and overlong" stuff.

Exactly. Everyone hated MGS2 until MGS4, Halo 2 sucked until we got Halo 3, and BB is only the best in the series now that it's old. I'm sure that once we get the Batman reboot movies, TDKR criticism will dry right up and the movie will be used as a measuring stick the way BB and TDK are.

This is the "most emotional"? Hubba-bubba what? If Alfred shedding one tear means more than Bruce losing Rachael, or him losing his parents....just wow.

-My wife, who welled up at the end, concurs that this one was tougher to watch at the end. As viewers we were more invested in Bruce and Alfred than we ever were in Rachel.

And people in my theater actually clapped and cheered when Batman was revealed to be alive at the end. For most people (including myself), TDKR was more emotional than the first two.

And I also agree with dsh in that TDKR is several notches better than The Avengers.
