I am so freaking happy about Daisy.

Everything about Smash Ultimate looks amazing, but seeing Daisy made the day for me.

The Xenoblade 2 prequel story is getting a physical release in addition to being available as DLC.

They also put a warning at the beginning of that showcase that what you would see is graphic violence.
I hope this is not the case. I think it goes more to either Joel was kidnap or murdered by the fireflies and that makes Ellie go on a killing spree.

And to be fair the first game was a murder simulator too.

That is why I asked what in particular was the change in direction considering the first was also a murder simulator.

From the context, I would presume "hyper-graphic murder simulator".
I remember the initial looks at the first game being extremely graphic as well, but it worked within the context of the game when playing it. To be fair, most folks didn't seem to play TLOU for the violence per se, but for the story....which, in keeping with similar things like The Road, The Walking Dead or The Girl with All the Gifts (though that's almost more copying TLOU given the timeline), is violent in a bleak, desperate kind of way.

The trailer didn't provide a lot of context for the gore, so I think it's actually quite up in the air and dependent upon the actual context for the trailer scene.

Both the hyper-graphic stuff, and the whole "religious death-cult killing gay people thing".

EDIT: Just watched, and that's a ton more graphic than I remember the first game being, and that game was already quite violent. Do I really need to see a guy's guts hanging out? Is this Mortal Kombat?

Well we don't really know if that is the case. Religious death cult... check. Gay people... check... Religious death cult killing gay people, up in the air.

There is no way to reasonably infer this is the plot from the footage they showed last night.

Many of those old games were just yesteryear’s hyper-realistic murder simulators, of course. Not much has changed in terms of the centrality of graphic violence in the evolution of the medium. E3 reminds of that annually.

Also, how is everyone not freaking out over Daemon X Machina?

I'd just like to see multi-million dollar graphics money like that spent on say a SCUBA diving RPG, a serious wilderness survival game (that isn't about killing unless it's for food), or an open world flight simulator. Meanwhile everyone else just wants to watch a young woman slit dudes' throats in 4K. Alrighty then.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
