It's over!
First-Person Dungeon-Crawlers wins by a nose.
Thanks for making it a tight race, all.
It begins May 1st!

Re: Together Retro - May
Someone needs to play either Shining the Holy Ark or Arcana.
I was about to ask a clarifying question, but it appears that Bone foresaw it in his description. Good job! Now I gotta think of what to play. I've got lots that I can play. Maybe I should actually try to finish Betrayal at Krondor?
Or, you know, play a King's Field. I'm sure Ex would appreciate another convert.

In the official FPDC thread, I will do my best to proselytize the series via an informative post.Sarge wrote:Or, you know, play a King's Field. I'm sure Ex would appreciate another convert.
That said, there's a considerable amount of first person dungeon crawlers out there. Nearly every retro platform has them. If anyone needs help coming up with ideas of what to play, just let us know! There's plenty of time to consider the many wonderful options.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Arcana is awesome...
I thought the Krondor games were tactical RPGs. Was I wrong?

Re: Together Retro - May
Krondor is first person gridless explorations with the single worst angle ever isometric combat. In a way, it's similar to The Dark Eye series, which has the same convention. Some other good first person dungeon crawlers:Ack wrote:Arcana is awesome...

Ultima 1-5
Ultima Underworld I & II
Wizardry series (extra masochism points for IV)
Bard's Tale trilogy
Dragon Wars (the unofficial Bard's Tale IV)
Might & Magic series
SSI's Gold Box Dungeons & Dragons games
Eye of the Beholder trilogy
Lands of Lord trilogy
Dungeon Master series
Etrian Odyssey series
The Dark Spire
Class of Heroes series
The Dark Eye trilogy
Shining in the Darkness & Shining the Holy Ark
Phantasy Star I
SMT I, II, IV, Strange Journey, Persona 1 (and possibly some others)
Some first person Dark Souls knockoff series
Plus a whole bunch more

Re: Together Retro - May
I actually felt compelled to pick up The Dark Spire the other day. I'm glad FPDC actually won so I'll be able to talk about it in the thread! This game is so difficult and grindy that I probably won't be beating it by the end of May, but hopefully I'll be able to at least have a more solid strategy about approaching the game and trying to beat it by then...
I wish I had Shining the Holy Ark so I could play that, but alas, it won't be happening this time.

Re: Together Retro - May
I do own Shining in the Darkness...
But, I don't know if I am going to get to it that month. I was really hoping for Square and Enix to win, but alas...
I shall try my best to get to it, but I have so many other games I want to play first.
