Shallowness and attractiveness are not necessarily mutually inclusive. That and "looks" is based on perspective and judged not only by the eyes but the mind. I think guys who know "their type" aren't shallow, it's just that they know what they want as far as sexual attraction. I don't find myself shallow or a jerk for not wanting to date a woman who wore anything larger than a size 2.

My point is; looks are extremely important and caring about them doesn't relate to being shallow. If you can't look at your significant other and think "Damn you fine!" your relationship is headed for trouble.

It tells me not only is he shallow, he's willing to make excuses for it. His "people like different things" argument might hold water if it wasn't for the fact that the person is focused on finding that specific look. They know what they want in appearance, and that's what they focus on. Its negative because it isn't right, its not even close.
