You can't just stop if the law applies to your state, you must think of all the people in other states whom have been disenfranchised. Let's just throw the candidates in a cage match or something.
Seriously though, where is this going exactly?
Does your state require a photo ID to vote? Don't vote!

Re: Does your state require a photo ID to vote? Don't vote!
Did somebody REALLY say voting is not a right, it's a privilege? This is the U.S. We do have a right to vote. Thousands died so we could have a right to vote. That may the single dumbest statement I've ever read.
The very idea of a representative democracy is to vote, so it can't be a privilege.
As for buying a gun being a right, no it is not a right to buy a gun. It's only a right to own a gun.
The 2nd amendment says you can own a gun, and clearly anyone can buy a gun 2nd hand and not show one bit of ID to the citizen selling to them. Or just make your own firearm.
It's not the $25 or whatever an Id costs that bothers me, it's the IDEA that you have to purchase something to exercise your right. Think about it...do you have to purchase you right to an attorney? Do you have to purchase your religious freedom or any other rights?

They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.

+1, I'm with you Jill. I've seen the error of my ways. F*ck voting! Thousands died for that right and now they have ruined it, so I'm not doing it any more either. I'm keeping my bear arms though, I worked hard to get those. Bears are hard to kill. It's an outrage, it is worse than this global warming bullshit they keep trying to tell me about! I'm going back to the real world.jvalentine98 wrote:Did somebody REALLY say voting is not a right, it's a privilege? This is the U.S. We do have a right to vote. Re: Does your state require a photo ID to vote? Don't vote!
Here's a legitimate response:
In a lot of places there were many counter productive rules about voting created in the last couple of years, and those rules have a net effect of less people voting. It so happens that the same individuals whom benefit from low voter turnout or individuals whom can better target a supported demographic are the ones who support these types of initiatives.
So, if this is an effort to get less people to vote ... why would you do exactly that? Especially, if you're adamant about voting?
Hurdles are made to get you to not do something you're suppose to do. The actual stance against that nonsense would be to jump through the hoops and then actually take up a voice with leaders in your area.
Throwing it in the face of some volunteer, wasting their time, and taking your aggravation out on them, when they're likely more upset than you are, is ridiculous and makes you appear to be entirely ignorant.

If I make 'MURICA jokes about this will I be called mean again?
Seriously how is ANY of this controversial? IDs are a requirement and very useful tool for the state to run and for citizens to get their work with the government agencies done. Corporations know way more about you than any ID could ever tell, so why be paranoid about being forced to have an ID? And why should someone vote without something to prove he's the real deal? Voting is a very serious business, getting a piece of plastic is the LEAST you could do for it :S

+1 Zero. I can see both sides of the argument, but I have to fall on the side of showing ID to vote. Everyone may have the right to vote, but that doesn't mean it should be abused by fraud. If anything, it would stifle the conspiracy theorists. I understand it may be hard to get an ID in some parts of the US, but if you can't afford an photo ID of some sort, is voting really your biggest priority at that point?

if you are working so much that you cannot find a single hour in the day to go and pick up a free ID, you should consider yourself lucky. Most are struggling to get enough hours.

False and false. They arent trying to get lower voter turnout. They are just trying to make sure those voting are who they say they are and lawfully able to vote.Cronozilla wrote:Here's a legitimate response:

jvalentine98 wrote:Elections coming up in November. Apparently Alabama is requiring a government issued photo ID to vote. Last I checked a state ID or driver's license is not free. Therefore, they are essentially requiring the purchase of something in order to vote.
I understand my constitutional rights to be that if I am a citizen (and not a felon), I can vote. No charge for choosing my leaders. But, that's not the case in my state.
I do plan on going to the polling location, stating my name and letting them check me off the registered voter list, and when asked for my ID I will refuse and let them know I think it is illegal for them to require it. Then simply leave. Money spent should not be a requirement to vote.
Well without an ID how the heck are they supposed to know you are a citizen or a felon? The honor system?
yeah that's right don't vote, that will show those bastards. They will be really sorry you didn't vote.
