Yeah I know far too many "I play all games... except for sports games" people. I don't get it. Sports games rule.

I enjoy Hockey and Golf games. Hell, one of my favorite games of all time is Golden Tee.

I hate 'em - boring, repetitive, no story. I'm a diehard baseball fan but would never want to play a baseball video game.

A big proponent of early video games and how they became popular were from games simulating sports. Sports game dont lack quality they just lack financial value. They are mass produced and lose some relevance as later iterations generally improve upon them.

Because if you're like me you don't like american football that eliminates one game because I've even played those on consoles and that bored me. Baseball is the same it seems even though I can stand watching it on tv. Others(besides the mario tennis on gba) I've played in off chances here and there and they don't do a thing for me....I may give them a chance later but football is a definite nope....boring to watch....and boring to play

i think sports games can get boring and repetitive for people who don't do a lot of multiplayer (and in this day and age, online multiplayer). if i want a single player experience, i'm not going to go to a sports game. but i'll play any NBA game with any of my friends any time. i also still love the 16-bit basketball games.

never got too into baseball games, but The Show series has started to drag me back in.

golf games always rule. VR Golf '97 is one of my favorites.

i think sports games are great, but i hate the Madden crowd, and that's probably just because i don't really like american football that much either. i enjoy watching it, but i don't really enjoy playing it, probably because i don't know the rules as well as i do other sports.

do bowling games count as sports games? bowling games are great.

For the poster asking about NCAA for the GameCube - yeah but that ones lost some luster.

I wrote the rarest and most valuable sports game article for Racket if anyone is interested in learning more.

I love some NBA Courtside 2 on N64, even to this day. The gameplay is simple and fun. I like to trade and make super teams, and create a player and dominate. Playing a 28 game season instead of 82 shortens and makes it like college hoops.

You can just diss all sports games if you want, won't make you any cooler. I can diss all RPGS if I want, won't make me any less of a nerd.
