I don't know if I felt it was scary in a horror movie way.
Meaning when those creatures got involved.
But OMG did it get to me as far as claustrophobia goes. There were a lot of scenes that made me feel as nervous as the burial scene in Kill Bill 2.
Yeah, I agree. It wasn't horrific, but it was terrifying.
I mainly look at the creatures as a means to make the characters endure the really unnerving stuff, which is all the being crammed in dark crevices.

One movie I can't recommend enough is The Relic, a horror flick from the mid-nineties. Check it out for sure!

I will check it out. I read the novel that serves as the basis for the movie when I was a teenager, and I enjoyed it (not immensely...but enough). I have never heard anyone praise the film adaptation, but I will seek it out on your recommendation.

I think they say the word "hypothalamus" in that movie more than any other I've ever seen.

I thought he was talking about the film Mimic, which isn't good (except for Mira Sorvino.)

I actually saw this one last night. All in all I found it a really uncomfortable movie. I never want to see it again.

I don't watch too many movies, but I think I'll re-read Clive Barker's Books of Blood series. I have 'em all in my closet here.

And although it's not a horror game, I've been (slowly...) playing through Planescape: Torment. It's mostly definitely dark and twisted and, uh, tormented.

It was..... something. Not sure if I liked it or not. Certainly one of those gets-under-your-skin movies...

I actually hated Insidious; so, I won't count that one...

Off the top of my head, however, I would list:

Black Death
Black Swan
Drag Me to Hell
The House of the Devil
The Innkeepers
The Last Exorcism
Let Me In
Let the Right One In
Monsters
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

I have also heard good things about, but have not seen The Conjuring, The Evil Dead, The Lords of Salem, Mama, Scream 4, Shutter Island, and Stake Land. I am sure I could list some more if I did a little research - and I know I could list a lot more if I went back a few more years - but overall, I think that the last few years have been really good for horror films.

Large studios discovered that horror movies are a dependable source of income; so, we are seeing more (relatively) big-budget productions. Moreover, the advent of quality digital video and the ubiquity of high-speed internet connections has allowed more people to make and distribute low-budget horror.
Insidious was terrible. Or half of it was. We've already talked about this.

Black Swan is amazing.

Drag Me To Hell is great!

House of the Devil & Innkeepers are sooooooooooooooooooo awesome.

Last Excorcism was Ok.

Let The Right One In is awesome. No need to see the remake - for me.

The Conjuring was creepy, good.

Evil Dead 2013 was fan-fucking-tastic.

Scream 4 is - DUDE WHY HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THIS YET? It rivals the original.

Lords of Salem is excellent. I love RZ, but Lords is close to being my favorite of his films. I need to see it a few more times to be certain.

Anyway, Jordan, you have great taste in horror movies.
