Nice stuff Cha Cha. Man I still find HD TVs confusing and don't have one. It looks sweet though and is the best looking HD cab for sure. :D

Let me hear more about the Noir.

So, I swear I have seen games like SSF4AE and some of the other X2 games in 4:3. Could you switch between 16:9 and 4:3 on PCB nowadays?

Will it run 15k/24/31 and what ever the hell HD is? Automatically?

Will it run with pillars for 4:3 stuff?

And finally is the monitor rotatable?

The Noir has an autodetect built into the monitor so it can automatically scale up or down the picture based on the game's native res, and it will add bars for native 4:3 games.
Most consoles have a way to force aspect ratio and scale the game accordingly without the squish or stretch. SF4 and Tekken are no exception, they can display in 4:3. Sometimes games will have 4:3 with bars already built into the options menu and all XBLA/PSN releases of old 4:3 games come with predesigned bars on the side of the screen so they don't tax systems/displays any more than they have to.

The monitor on the Noir is not rotatable, the Egret 29 I have does (though rotating it can be a PITA).

Rotating any 29" CRT is a PITA, with the possible exception of the egret cabs that have the rotate mechansim (egret 2?).

It was not very fun to rotate the monitor in one of my net cities. I had to take the cab about half-way apart to do it, and it's not a cab that you can lay on its back either. I know with astros and atomiswave cabs for example, you can lay the cab on its back, making it much easier to lift and rotate the monitor.

Oh my Egret has the 'rotation' mechanism and mount. It's horribly designed however... All the weight of the monitor rests on one bolt that you have to pull out in the bottom left corner and then hold in place to reinsert the bolt in a new hole... Not fun to rotate any monitor, mechanism or no.

Brad, you don't mind having PCBs on carpet? I suppose CPS2 are enclosed in plastic, I'd still be paranoid though. Glad you got the cab all set up and working, I was worried it would live in Rich's garage forever

Cha cha, very nice Noir and Egret 29! Does the E29 have the marquee holder though? I think someone on Arcade Otaku might have an extra for sale, along with a windy marquee holder...

I have a pair of blasts and an astro.

Damn Chempop those cabs are PRISTINE, you guys are making me self-conscious about how little I polish mine down :P Yours look great though. I am just gonna assume you have a bunch of Cave shmups PCBs, got any Mushihime to make me extra jealous?

Once I got the Jpac for the egret and cthulus for the noir, I kinda gave up on collecting boards for a while (to focus on completing console collections). I got mainly JAMMA and MVS stuff, with a few sys 246 and CPS 2 boards, and 2 Naomi's with only a few carts/GDs. I'll post em up in my eventual gameroom thread.

But yea, now I'm gonna up my cleaning-and-polishing game on the cabs

PS. I do have the marquee for the egret, it's just super ugly and unwieldy and only fits small artwork.

Thanks! I worked sorta hard on getting the blasts in okay shape. Yes, I took them nearly 100% apart and scrubbed the living bujeebus out of them. They are chalk full of scrapes and dings that I can live with though. I should probably use some novus on the monitor bezels one of these days. The astro I've yet to fully dive into. One thing I'm super grateful about is that all three have sparkling clean chassis.

Here is my game collection (I also use a 360 and dreamcast in one of the blasts, gotta love those takumi, capcom, psikyo, and especially cave ports):

I'm surprised you don't like the E29 marquee holder. I think it's cool looking!

You'd think it's cool until you actually see it with the little arcade artwork that fits in it, and how it always looks shoved in there with too much negative space. But to each their own. Next pic I take (after a scrubbing and a half) I'll toss the marquee on it.

I need to redo the side decals too, they are beginning to peel.

Nice collection man, my assortment is way more random and mainly centered around FGs :P

I know what you mean. I got an astro marquee as a gift, and even though I like it I had to fill some of the empty space with a movestrip for it to really seem worthwhile. I think I may design/print a custom marquee like I did for my blasts, one that fills the space a bit better. I still really like the look of the neon green Egret29 marquee, regardless of how much of the arcade artwork even shows.

...and yes, I need to straighten my picture frames  ...
