I decided to stay away, and play a game every month or more.
if you take a peek at the "Games Beaten" threads over the years you'll see that lots of folks fonish a game or two a week over the course of the year, most without sinking unhealthy amount of hours into them. RPGs obviously take more time, but you can beat and see much of a fighter, indie platformer, run n gun, brawler, etc in a few hours.
Well..
If it takes you 8 hours to complete a game, a game is considered short . So if you play 2 hours a day (maximum healthy amount of hours per day?) you will not complete 2 games a week. And we are talking about short games not regular (12-18 hours?) .

I have never completed a game in one sitting except when I cheated. Those games were usually SNES platformers or beatem ups , and with infinity lives you basically just walking through them.

@MrPoPo

and you believe that Steam and those digital downloads will be available on whatever Windows OS is out there when you retire?(If you are 50, I take that back)

You're on a site full of people who play 30 year old games. Age is not an issue. Worst case scenario I need to download cracks for my Steam games. But I keep all my games installed at all times, so I don't have to wait to play.

It is increasingly rare for games to be longer than 8 hours, so "12-18" as "regular" is a tough argument to make. In most genres, 4-8 hours is the norm to complete a campaign. When I look at my own list from this year, for example, I'd estimate that about 1/3 or so of the games I've chalked up were under 3 hours long, 1/3 were between 3-8 hours, and 1/3 were over 8 hours (with just just a very few longer ones hitting 25-40 hours).

I frequently use http://www.howlongtobeat.com to get an estimate of what I am likely in for as far as a time commitment so that I can pace myself accordingly to try and finish a game, to figure out how many I can be reasonably starting/playing at the same time, etc.

In any case, I think that in most instances people are more intimidated by the thought of the the time required to start playing through their backlog than they need to be.

thanks for the website! I was always looking for something to tell me how long a game is. Looking at some of the games I want to play: Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite , The Last of Us, and BorderLands 2 are 10hrs ,10hrs, 14hrs, and 28 hours .

see, and at two hours a day on average you could finish them all in a month.

I picked up Sleeping Dogs, Skyrim the Legendary Edition, and Dishonored for about $51 total. I love Steam sales.

Also mentioned this on the Steam group but I will here as well: Miasmata is 66% off right now. I know a few people here were interested in that one, not sure if they picked it up or not. I've been curious about it and may have to actually pick it up for $5. Anyone have any impressions to share?
