I certainly do not think that has been the case.dsheinem wrote:I never said they all were, I only indicated that, as a whole, these threads tend to lean heavily in that direction and thus reinforce a negative stereotype of male gamers (which has certainly been the case).
I'm going to add Yukari Takeba from Persona 3. I found her to be a very well-written character that didn't rely on any gimmicks to be interesting, rather, she's pretty much a normal girl, which is very fitting for the mundane setting of the game. I like her a lot because there's nothing particularly innovate or new baout her, it's just well done.

I certainly think that this thread could and should be about celebrating the strong and well done female characters rather than exploiting them. We have the NSFW thread for that.
With that, Cate Archer from the NOLF series:

Smart, talented super spy. The female analogue to James Bond. You gotta love someone who saves the world from killer mimes.

Re: Let's Name the Top 100 Video game girls
If this thread isn't chock full of half naked images of video game girls in a few weeks, I'll eat my hat. Not meaning to be rude, but I agree with "The dish". Plus, where is the the 100 list?dsheinem wrote:I never said they all were, I only indicated that, as a whole, these threads tend to lean heavily in that direction and thus reinforce a negative stereotype of male gamers (which has certainly been the case).alienjesus wrote: I think that it's incredibly narrow minded of you to think that all these entries are purely about how these characters look.
And this is wayyyyyyyyyy off topic, but a commercial just came on for blackpeoplemeet.com with the slogan "THIS is how Black People meet". I wonder, if I set up a profile will it break their system?
Re: Let's Name the Top 100 Video game girls
As General Norris said, this hasn't at all been true for this thread. When characters like Terra, Rydia, and Mother are mentioned, you're looking at a list of powerful women and not necessarily sexy or sexualized women.dsheinem wrote:I never said they all were, I only indicated that, as a whole, these threads tend to lean heavily in that direction and thus reinforce a negative stereotype of male gamers (which has certainly been the case).alienjesus wrote: I think that it's incredibly narrow minded of you to think that all these entries are purely about how these characters look.

Re: Let's Name the Top 100 Video game girls
I have to agree, but I've learned not to take these threads too seriously anymore. I'm actually more concerned about the stereotype of gamers being obsessed with anime girls as 90 % of the characters in these threads are from japanese games.dsheinem wrote:I never said they all were, I only indicated that, as a whole, these threads tend to lean heavily in that direction and thus reinforce a negative stereotype of male gamers (which has certainly been the case).alienjesus wrote: I think that it's incredibly narrow minded of you to think that all these entries are purely about how these characters look.

This is a retro game forum with especially a focus on retro console gaming.
Japanese games dominated the console game industry up until oh maybe last generation or so?
Just makes sense to me.
Who cares about stereotypes anyway? They're pretty much always negative and always wrong.

Re: Let's Name the Top 100 Video game female characters
It's just that I've seen enough diversity in this forum to know that there are people here who've enjoyed non-japanese games in the past couple of years. Yet, these types of threads are still heavily dominated by characters from japanese rpgs, japanese fighting games, ect.AppleQueso wrote:This is a retro game forum with especially a focus on retro console gaming.

It just seems so typical I guess. Hardcore gamers always seem to obsess over japanese characters

Kei "Edge" Nagase, Ace Combat 5. She doesn't look like she could hurt a fly, but she's an incredible fighter pilot - 2nd best in the Osean military, second only to Blaze. She's serious, sentimental, and no fun at a party, but she's the only one Blaze would ever allow to cover his six.
