I admit freely that nonfiction is not my first choice for passing the time but I can hardly put this book down. I always wanted to learn the real story behind Rumi's magnificence, and this book seems to fit the bill nicely.
I read Clive Barker's Books of Blood Volumes 1-3 (this is a one-book anthology) around Christmas-time last year. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to read the rest of the series this year: The Inhuman Condition, In the Flesh, and Cabal. I recommend these to anyone who like short horror stories (when it comes to horror, I've always preferred short stories over novels).
I also read a Clive Barker novel, Mister B. Gone, about a demon who's trapped in the book. Weird as hell, but pretty cool.
And that's it! Everything else I've read has been a textbook or.... manga.
I'll probably re-read The Hobbit before I see the movie though.
Wes Craven's New Nightmare, the novelization. Great.
Grimm Fairy Tales: Inferno. Good but short.
Superman vs The Terminator: Death to the Future. Great.
The Amalgam Age of Comics: The DC Comics Collection. Great. Wish The Marvel Comics Collection wasn't so expensive.
The Return to the Amalgam Age of Comics. Great.
Batman Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth. Loved it, but thought it was too short. Loved the artwork, but felt it made the story a bit harder to follow.
The Sandman Volumes 2-3, taking a hiatus from Volume 4.
Batman: The Killing Joke. Great, but short.
Freddy vs Jason vs Ash. Loved it, but why does it go for at least $30some used?
I've been on a graphic novel kick this summer.
Currently reading (whatever I don't finish this year will be carried over to 2013):
* Mangled Meat by Edward Lee. It's an anthology consisting of three stories, and I've already read the first story.
* Freddy Krueger's Tales of Terror: Twice Burned. It's part of a YA series released back in the early '90s, and I have all but one of the 6 books released.
* Nightmares on Elm Street: Freddy Krueger's Seven Sweetest Tales. An anthology of short NOES stories by different writers. I recently started reading the fourth story "Le Morte de Freddy" by William Relling Jr (I have two of his books that I procured from a thrift store, New Moon and Silent Moon), but of the first three my fave so far is Brian Hodges' "Asleep at the Wheel".
* Batman: Year One
* Grimm Fairy Tales: Neverland
* Mysterious Skin by Scott Heim
* The Sandman Volume 4. Don't have Volume 5 yet.
* Magic Knight Rayearth Omnibus 1.
On the list:
* James Byron Huggins' "Cain", at the recommendation from one of my coworkers at Orange Blossom.
* The Nightmares on Elm Street: Parts 1, 2, 3. An adaptation of the first three NOES films. I have the UK release since it was cheaper than the American release.
* The Nightmares on Elm Street: Parts 4 & 5.
* The Zombie Survival Guide, by Max Brooks. I also have World War Z.
Of the myriad of the "whoops we screwed up" books of the post-fiasco era (2008—present) I picked this one and currently about halfway through. An interesting read that makes you wonder at archaic ways of thinking and deduction usually taken for granted.
