Duke Nukem Forever... which probably wasn't a good thing, and an ill harbinger for this game.

Have you played the game or just express that opinion from what you've heard? I played the PC version, and while nothing special, it still was a fun game. I've heart the console ports are horrible, but reviewers should really have bothered playing the main target platform too (though I don't judge normal gamers for having a negative opinion of the game, based solely on them having played the bad console ports)

semi-related... I remember last year a PC game was announced that looked a lot like Ico. I feel like you controlled a girl, and she had some kind of animal companion... anybody remember what the heck I'm thinking of?

I'll freely admit I haven't played it. It's not so much the gameplay, it's the sense of humor that I wouldn't appreciate, and I know enough about that to realize it's not a game that I have any desire to play.
I'm also pretty sure it got some very middling reviews, but you're right, that makes it average, not awful. But that's why I feel it's not good for
The Last Guardian, because the end product will probably come up well short of the hype the game has received. An average game from that team would be an extreme disappointment, and I'd not see them release anything than something that's painfully mediocre.

nope. It actually had visuals that reminded me of Ico or Journey. It's gonna drive me nuts.

that looks really pretty. But no. The game I'm thinking of featured a girl, and some kind of companion.
I found it! It's called Toren...

There was no official statement regarding its cancellation, so it probably will still come out just fine!
