I picked up Earth Defence Force 2017 today and it's fantastic from what I've seen so far.

It's a third person shooter with a very retro feel. The short (5 minute-ish minutes) level are swarming with insect like aliens at every angle, fleets of of UFOs, destructible levels and power-ups everywhere as soon as you start killing aliens.
The weapons are great fun. So far I've unlocked rifles, shotguns, grenade and missile launchers and a welding torch. There's also usable vehicles, but I haven't found any of those yet.
The graphics aren't great, they look somewhere between current and last gen graphics, but they don't detract from gameplay and the frame rate is never reduced no matter much is flying around the screen.
Currently playing: Skies of Arcadia, Mass Effect 2, Backbreaker

Consoles Owned: XBox 360, Gamecube, Playstation 2, Dreamcast, Saturn, N64, N64DD, PSone, XBox, Game Boy Advance SP, Gameboy Pocket, Game Gear.

I kept wondering why everyone was spelling this wrong. But then I realized that the PS2 version was spelled Oneechanbara, but the others were spelled Onechanbara. Carry on then.

But it was still a commercial and critical success. No Final Fantasy game is "underrated" in any way, really, save perhaps II and III.

I really like FFXIII but I've already talked about that elsewhere.

I loved Space Invaders Infinity Gene. It's basically a mix of Space Invaders, a bullet hell shooter, and Rez. It's a damn solid shooter, but I had never heard of it until I grabbed the demo off of PSN on a whim. It ended up being the first time I ever bought a game immediately after finishing a demo.

I loved this quirky game. I think it would have made an excellent arcade board :)
