Season 3 was the season where Goliath, the dog Gargoyle thing, and the chick all traveled the world to often-times mystical areas looking for the artifacts of Oberon, right? I really liked that season, myself. Especially the season opener where they were on Avalon with the Gods and the season finale where all the Gods of Avalon came to New York City and all the Gargoyles and Xanatos had to team-up to take out an all-powerful Oberon. Good stuff.Gamerforlife wrote:The last season of gargoyles was handled by a different head writer and possibly a different creative team. They turned the show into something more "Disney" and kid friendly. I view that whole season as non-canon. The original creator did some comic books if you want to see HIS continuation of the show. I think they're on http://www.amazon.com

When I was a kid I would watch all those shows mentioned like Dexter's Laboratory(Favorite episode is the Die Hard-esque one) and Rocko's Modern Life. Now though the only ones I really pay attention is The Boondocks (which is probably my favorite show at the moment) and Superjail.

I love Flapjack. It's my favorite post-2004 CN show. It felt like what Spongebob used to be.indecks wrote:Some people here have mentioned Regular Show and Adventure Time. Anyone ever like Flapjack?
That show could have almost been viewed as a spiritual successor to Ren/Stimpy, what with the hyper-detailed closeups, the grossness, etc. Someone also mentioned Chowder.

Re: Let's have a western animation thread
I think that all happened in season 2. The first two seasons of the show were phenomenal. Season 3 was when they rebranded the show to Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles and the new creative team took over. Everything about the show changed and while it might be harsh to say that season sucked, it certainly lost what made Gargoyles so compelling and different from other shows on tv at the timeBurningDoom wrote:Season 3 was the season where Goliath, the dog Gargoyle thing, and the chick all traveled the world to often-times mystical areas looking for the artifacts of Oberon, right? Yup. The big change was the introduction which included Dark Hooded xenophobes and the drop in animation quality (like FOX's X-Men level of jerkiness).Gamerforlife wrote:Season 3 was when they rebranded the show to Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles and the new creative team took over. The sad part is that the last season had a lot of potential. Puck dropping in to give lessons, a radical hate-group to harangue them... but the animation quality took a severe hit and the dialog was overall terrible. (The alternate-reality/dream arc was very good though.)
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.

Re: Let's have a western animation thread
Anybody remember the older Fox animation blocks of pirates of dark water, peter pan and the lost boys or Beetlejuice? I never hear about these cartoons anymore. I'm sure they wouldn't really appeal to me now, cept' for maybe Bettlejuice.
Also that tin tin movie is frightening, it reminds me of those paintings that people do of what Mario or Homer Simpson would look like if they were real. It's sad that they couldn't just make a tin tin in the beautiful Hergé style. But I guess 2d features just aren't the thing studios want to pay for right now, which is understandable when you can release any mainstream garbage 3d movie, and gross 70-100 million dollars.
And one last thought, the Critic still holds up today. Love that cartoon.

Actually it seems like Hergé and Spielberg tried to meet* concerning a "realistic" adaptation of Tin Tin back when he was working on Indiana Jones.
*Hergé died so Spielberg negotiated with his widow.

Hopefully not in the way that he "negotiated" A.I. after Stanley Kubrik died.
hmmmm, people dying after Spielberg is involved????
Coincidence???
Probably.

To be fair, the body and movement animation is really faithful to the comic. Tin Tin punches like he does in the comics.
Only please, no more horrible singing in the English dub.
.....damn it, I can't find this song in English on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPDOx_9NYYc I had downloaded the English dub, but I deleted it once I found the Greek one. This song, is horrible enough in French and Greek, you have NOOOOOOOOOOOO idea how bad it is in English.

Re: Let's have a western animation thread
You know, while I can see where the praise to early pioneers of the animation field like Gertie the Dinousaur or Steamboat Willie, I find really impossible to understand so much praise on a little short called "Quasi at the Quackadero".
I mean, it's bad. It's really bad. The premise is cool, surrealism in a time-travel theme park? What's not to love? But my god, I can't understand what anyone sees in this short, much less why it made the National Film Registry in the US. The animation is choppy, the jokes are not funny and the surrealism forced and not that hot anyways.
It's like Porky in Wackyland only with horrible animation, no plot, no characters, bad timing, mediocre music, and poor gags.
I have watched this short dozens of times, more than many shorts I love, like The Dover Boys, trying to understand what people see in this short and there's nothing here. It looks like they are just carried away by the premise, without any regard to content.
