I'm pretty sure they said that the reason SUGC didnt have the lock-on games was due to lack of time, they needed to hit a deadline.
1. Open folder 'Sega Genesis Roms'
2. ctrl + click 'Knuckles in Sonic 2, Knuckles in Sonic 3'
3. Right Click + Copy
4. Open folder 'games going into a glorified emulator disc'
5. Paste.
I don't buy that they didn't have enough time or space. I think they honestly just didn't bother or there was some licensing issue that made it not worth their time. I don't blame them for it since there have been a bajillion re-releases but let's not make excuses for them either.
So does this actually work for the PS3? Can you really add roms to an existing collection and have them just work? Or

no, Flake was just saying that's how the companies (basically) make the PS3 disc. He was saying it would have been THAT simple for them to add more games to the disc.

I see your point but it's not quite that simple. If it's anything like the PSP collection I have, there is additional content associated with each game that would also have to be created (background info, screen shots, box cover, interviews, etc).
Plus there is work for the testers to make sure the game works with the emulator. If it doesn't, there's development staff to add functionality to the emulator and debug problems, etc.
So all of the above doesn't come for free.
Re: Disappointed with Mario 25th Anniversary Collection
Mario is the most known character in gaming ever. That name has made Nintendo a gazillion dollars and made Nintendo what it is today. And a measley rerelease of a incomplete Super Mario Allstars is all a Multibillion dollar corporation can do to thank Marios legion of fans? For shame Nintendo, for shame. They could have released a box set featuring the best Mario games with updated graphics. I mean come on its only Nintendo's most popular characters 25th year. Man saying that just made me feel really old.

Going to (politely) call BS on this. Most of the work is already done. All the manuals and art assets for Sonic and Knuckles were scanned in like a decade ago. Those assets were definitely already in the collections for PS2/GCN/oXbox. Hell, I'm pretty sure all that stuff was in Sonic Jam for the Saturn - and if a Saturn can emulate those games, shouldn't the PS3 / 360 crunch those roms without breaking a sweat?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

So is everybody enjoying it who bought it? I'm thinking about getting it because it does come with some pretty cool bonuses and the box does look beautiful. It might eventually become like Metroid Prime Trilogy out of print and sell for like $80 on Amazon. I do have the game on SNES though.

Re: Disappointed with Mario 25th Anniversary Collection
Big missed opportunity, though I see what they were trying to do (as evidenced by the big sales at Mod_Man's store). It's the same reason why I just bought the game for my young nephews -- they've hardly played the older games except for a few times at my house and I want to give them a history lesson (their Wii isn't online so no VC games, either).
But I'm just constantly baffled by the game industry's refusal to do anything worthwhile with its own history. Whether it's lack of access to legal emulation (though that's getting better), lazy/bad emulation when MAME has been doing it for years, stupid/uneven compilations or just plain missed opportunities like this one .... it's just a shame.
I think I may have posted this somewhere here before, but my personal Mario collection would include:
Donkey Kong
Mario Bros.
SMB 1, 2, 3
Japanese Mario 2
SMAS versions of the four above
Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island
Mario 64
That's just the core of it. Obviously a lot more could be included. Or maybe not, according to Nintendo....

I love it. It's a perfect gift for everyone who might like Mario actually, so don't give it a second thought.

I bought the preorder of it on Amazon when the price was like $35, now I see the price is $52. It also tells me 'Not yet shipped Delivery Estimate: December 20, 2010 - December 23'
