so far I've found 2 of the 3 dolphins I need to rescue in The Vents. This level is waaaay more fun than fucking Undercaves. And I don't feel like an idiot when I'm playing this level.

EDIT: beat the Vents... now on to The Lagoon.

SPOILERS

(does anyone know the code for spoiler tags?)

I already cleared the first "boss" (those who passed it will know). Indeed in the CD this level is much more fair due to the Glyph "checkpoint" just before the fight.
I don't remember if I figured it out on my own back in the day (I think so), but I certainly figured it out on my own this time and I didn't remember. What "helps" is that if you hit two (different) balls the first one will stop blinking. That and the color coding on the balls is a strong hint on what to do. Plus, if you remember what the Asterite asked you to do it makes some sense.

SPOILERS

Anyway, I missed them super dolphin powers. Either at the end or at the start of Ecco 2 the other dolphins have some related chatter - too bad you lose them right at the start of Ecco 2 IIRC - I could do with a level or two with them (but I think you lose it on the first level).

EDIT: I am NOT doing City of Forever the "hard way" again though.

Ivo.

Nice. That's the way it happens. The game has some very difficult stages, but stuffed in between them are sets of easy, and relaxing "find your way through the maze" stages.

There aren't any I don't think. I use white text, which works for people using the Glossyblue forum style, which I think is the default :S.

I had greater difficulty than you did with that one. When the balls were blinking, I just thought I was causing damage in some way. Sometimes I saw the blinking go away, but I assumed it just meant the creatuere was healing or something. Anyway, at that point I didn't remember what present-day Asterite told me. Maybe if I had written it down that would have helped.

That doesn't work for the elite minority of us who use Acid Tech as it is the closest to the original (and doesn't burn my retinas) :D .

I use black background as well and sometimes forget others are with white - until I realize it I find it funny as someone spoilers some text and the thing is clearly showing :)

I'm on my third day in The Machine. Obviously, it's a really tough stage. It's hard to know which way the screen in going to scroll, especially since a lot on the areas look the same. I'm going to have to make a map, something I haven't done since the 8-bit days. 8)

I still haven't gotten to start it. I have a rule right now where I'll only play one game at a time, and unfortunately my current game is Sword of Mana. I'm finding it long and tedious, but I won't allow myself to play anything else until I beat it. I keep expecting it to be over, and then there's more crap for me to do.
