Franchises that should have never continued

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

TvC had 4 buttons and YOU FORGOT VIRTUA FIGHTER RARRGH

I was more disappointed by Gals fighters not being mentioned. That game is fun :)

TvC had 4 buttons? I coulda swore it was just fast/medium/strong attack.

I didn't mention VF because a good chunk of 3D fighting games only have 3 buttons, and I was talking just about 2D fighters.

Seems like you guys had some fun arguing over who ripped off what and how certain genres came about.

Anyway, though I'm a fan of the series, I think it's time Resident Evil was retired. I mean, it's gotten ridiculous in terms of plot, gameplay has changed dramatically so that most fans don't seem to feel it's still in the same genre it started in, and with the most recent plotline, they seem to have killed their final antagonist, so...what else is there for them to do? Let it die.

In TvC the fourth button was partner.

My main issue with the Resident Evil series is that it's no longer about being a survival horror game, so much as an action game with undead in it.

Yeah, I tend to forget about 'special function' buttons for some reason. For instance, I still consider Last Blade and Soul Calibur 3-button fighters, even though they have a fourth button for parries/blocking.

I try to keep up with controls for games so I know what I can put on my arcade cabinet. 8 way joystick, 2 buttons, 4 players (then a start and coin/select button for each but it is on the far side). Once finish prettying it up, Ill get pictures up on here.

It is amazing at how few care about button mapping for games.

I don't see how that makes them suddenly not count as buttons but okay.

I blog about games and art. Usually both at once. Check it out at your own risk.

It's not that they don't, I just forget.

I'm kinda used to special functions not being their own button, but a combination of two buttons pressed together. Press both medium attack buttons for Special Partner/Dark Force. Press AB to do a evasion. Press CD to do a Knockback Attack. That sort of thing.

For instance, KOFXI introduced the 'E' button, which was just the knockback attack mapped to its own button. I still don't know why they did this - CD worked just fine.
