Have you played the Wonder Boy series? They're brilliant platforming RPGs (mostly - the first is basically adventure island before adventure island was adventure island). I highly recommend Wonder Boy 3 (master system) and Wonder Boy in Monster World (genesis) if not. Wonder Boy 2 (master system) is worth a peek too, although its more arcadey.CatchFiveBats wrote:Finally got around to playing Tomba. Played the demo countless times as a kid and finally picked a copy up for a decent price a couple years ago, but put it on the backlog...was about to list my copy in my b/s/t thread since it'll be on PSN soon; popped it in real quick to test it and suddenly I'm hooked.
This game is absolutely incredible and so unique...piles of stuff to do, great soundtrack, light-hearted and engaging story, charming world and characters.
Platformer/RPG is such a fun combination, I'd go as far as to say I consider it near ideal for my tastes. 'Dream game' material, even. I'm really kicking myself now for not playing it sooner...

I've got Wonder Boy in Monster World, but it was placed on that backlog I mentioned earlier...just like so so many games I ownalienjesus wrote:Have you played the Wonder Boy series? I have a friend who was a Sega kid and has always raved about the Wonder Boy series to me, so I really should have played it already. With you also recommending it to me, I'll definitely bump it up in my list of stuff to play. Thanks for the recommendation~

Im very OCD when it comes to organizng my games collection. I put my Snes games in alphabetical order and since Killer Instinct and Doom aren't grey carts like the others, it really bothers me

That does bother me slightly, but nothing is worse than my Genesis carts. Dear Lord, the uneven display due to the varying shapes of the cartridges drives me absolutely bonkers. I've decided to try and collect them all complete now just so that they look decent.SwooshBear wrote:Im very OCD when it comes to organizng my games collection. That's how it is with me and GBA games. The little lip on top of the cartridges makes it near-impossible to store them cart-only in any reasonable way...so I end up only collecting them CIB. Getting more difficult and expensive all the time...Dylan wrote:That does bother me slightly, but nothing is worse than my Genesis carts. N64 games still present an interesting predicament...planning to eventually build a shelf that displays them all face-out.

Tell me about it, right now I'm trying to figure out some way to store them without having them on my shelf (ideally I'd put them in a drawer or something). I'm also tempted to build some sort of machine or device that makes my N64 games actually accessible in a convenient way.CatchFiveBats wrote:That's how it is with me and GBA games. Ugh, I know exactly what you mean. I haven't found an adeqate way to store GBA games. Noiseredux came up with a nice solution once, but I dont have the space to implement it.CatchFiveBats wrote:That's how it is with me and GBA games. Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Yes Genesis carts do suck! I keep them on top of my Gamecube games, which sounds weird but they aren't visible up there thanks to my setup. My gba games I just keep hidden. My tv stand has two small cabinets on the sides so I keep my gameboy and 2600 stuff in one, and controllers in the other.CatchFiveBats wrote:That's how it is with me and GBA games. Re: Random Thoughts Thread
i don't think i shared this story yet. but, my parents are selling some stuff on craigslist and i can't help but to think back to one of my very few craigslist experiences.
this was probably a year ago. somebody on craigslist listed a "16 sega bit" for 20 dollars. the picture posted was of a model 1 sitting on top of a sega cd model 1. i immediately sent an email. the seller said that it was local pick up only and gave me her address with a description of what her house was located by. so the next day i hopped in my car and drove to a very shady part of akron. and when i say shady, i'm not talking about trees blocking out the sun.
most streets were missing the street sign and i could not for the life of me find her location. i stopped TWICE to ask for directions; the first man completely ignored me and the second man accused me of being an undercover cop. the locals were VERY friendly. the only street that i found that somewhat matched her description was a dead end street. because of this, i ended up driving up and down it several times looking for the matching house number.
the first pass down the dead end street nothing happened. the second pass, a man sitting on his porch yelled "it's across the street." i didn't know if the man was yelling at me or somebody else, so i just kept on driving. the third pass, the man yelled something similar. it was at this point i thought that maybe the seller told him to "watch" over her craigslist deal in case anything bad happened.
for a forth time, i drove back down the dead end road and the guy yelled across the street, "here comes the car again." at this point two fucking thugs stepped out from a house and walked towards my car. i stopped my car, and as they approached me i idiotically said, "are you the guys selling the sega?"
they both looked at each other and asked me if i was an undercover cop, which was the second time in 10 minutes that i was accused of being one (they obviously thought i was using "sega" as a code word for drugs). i denied, and they said that if they saw me drive back down that street again they would block my car in and kill me (i forget exactly what was said, but it was something to that affect).
so i am pretty sure a drug deal - or some kind of illegal deal - was going to go down that day, which explains why people were ignoring me when asked for directions and why i was accused of being an undercop twice.
moral of story: when in a shady part of town, don't ask random thugs where the sega is at.
