Snickerd00dle's Summer Game Challenge 2011
Re: Snickerd00dle's Summer Game Challenge 2011
Can't wait to play Galaxy 2 myself someday whenever I get a Wii again, the things I saw and heard made it sound even better than the first, along with more classic throwbacks.

Re: Snickerd00dle's Summer Game Challenge 2011
Haha, I'm still at 7 stars myself. I intend to just get to the final boss for the summer challenge, then play through the rest as and when I feel like playing some more.
Anyhow, I haven't played galaxy 2 in a couple of weeks and I've not started Prime 2 or secret of mana, but I have finally gotten back into the summer challenge, as I'm working my way through Advance Wars 2 now
I'm having fun I guess, but it's just more of the same. Not that that isn't awesome and all, but I was quite enjoying my marathon thus far working through games that felt less familiar to me.
I'm in the Yellow Comet set of missions now, having beat all 8 of Orange Star and Blue Moons missions. I'm 2 into those. I assume theres 8 for each army, plus maybe one or two 'final maps' so I think I'm about half way.
I'm not looking forward to Green Earth's missions. They'll be the hardest ones with none of my favourite COs to use.

*MUSHA - Genesis (Beaten)
Maximum Carnage - SNES
X-Men Mutant Apocalypse - SNES
Super Robot Taisen Z 2 - PSP
Breath of Fire IV - PSX
Metal Black - Saturn
*Soukyugurentai Otokuyo - Saturn (Beaten)
Ryu ga Gotoku Of The End - PS3 (Beaten)
Shadow Tower Abyss - PS2 (Beaten)
Super Robot Taisen MX - PSP (Beaten)
Soukyugurentai was pretty good but I didn't feel that it stood up to it's reputation. Maybe it's just because I'm not big on Raizing shooters. Each of the levels were pretty short, and the game was pretty easy, overall (I was playing on difficulty 4, equivalent of medium). The level design itself was great, and the visuals were just amazing. The final level in particular was incredibly cool (but the end boss was somewhat underwhelming). The port suffers from some noticeable performance issues too, which I thought was kind of weird. When the action gets heavy things start to lag. It wasn't a very big problem for me while I was playing single player, but I tried out two player with a friend and it was basically unplayable (really, it was that bad). All in all, definitely a shmup worth playing, but it wasn't quite my style. I see people saying it's one of the best the Saturn has to offer, but I think stuff like Batsugun and Radiant Silvergun utterly blow it out of the water.
MUSHA on the other hand was freaking incredible. I honestly can't come up with a single complaint about this game, I loved every second of it and will definitely be giving it a fair amount of replays. I was very fond of the music too, classic Genesis audio at it's finest. It's now my favorite shmup on the Genesis, so yeah, I liked it that much.

Don't forget the Spriggan games. They're awesome, definitely some of the best PCE shmups.
Congrats on finishing MUSHA, I haven't fired it up since my last go, but I'll finish it sooner or later.
I actually picked up Spriggan Mark 2 earlier this year but haven't given it a play. Didn't remember that it was a Compile title. I'll add it to the pile
Holy crap dudes, I just realized I think I played MUSHA myself way back in the day on the Genesis over at a friends. I just checked out some videos of it and the music, everything, looks so damn familiar. Are most of the bosses crazy futuristic floating deity heads? I could be mistaking it for some other Genesis shmup, but damn it looks familiar ...
If that is the same game you guys have been talking up, then I can safely say I definitely conquered it back then myself.

Yep! You should give it another go and see how it grabs you.

Yep, I think I know what shmup I'm playing next! The music is freaking badass, I definitely think it's one I played a lot of years ago.
Also I've got a friend playing through UN Squadron, he showed me this today, haha...

UN Squadron is awesome. I've played the crap out of that game. If your friend is looking for the easiest way to beat it I found using the guy that gives you extra hits and sticking to the starting plane until you can afford the very best plane worked well for me. Then you just have to play one level for the cash and you can equip every special weapon onto your ship and your basically invincible.

Well, let's see if I can really finish Final Fantasy VII before I head off to college on the 15th. Right now, I am just starting disc 2, and am trying to navigate through the Great Glacier to get to the Northern Limits.
Re: Snickerd00dle's Summer Game Challenge 2011
I started Phantasy Star last night.
I played Rayman for a bit first, and made some progress, but then I started getting killed and it pissed me off, so I took a break.
Anyway, I was going to play Phantasy Star on 360 Genesis Collection, but then I decided to play the same fan translated version lisalover did.
Its a joy hearing the improved music. Too bad only Japanese players ever got to hear it originally.
I haven't done much yet, just tooling around at the start, leveling up and getting more money, but its fun.

Improved music? Was there an updated version of the game only released in Japan or something?
