Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Another one of my random questions that I don't want to start an entire new thread for. This is probably a stupid question, but observe:

Would the fact that the contact is broken affect gameplay at all? I would think that as long as the part that holds the actual data is intact that everything would be ok, but I know nothing about this technical stuff and I could totally be wrong. On the game there is a save file in the last dungeon, so that could mean it works, but it could also mean that it's been there since before it was broken. I really don't want to have to play through the entire game to know if it works (at least not any time soon), so I'm hoping someone can confirm whether or not it should.

Those pins are for an add-on chip, like the Super FX or something. It could affect game-play, yes, though I'd imagine it'd amount to something like messed up graphics. It really depends on exactly what the chip in it is and exactly what it does.
What game is it?

Yeah that uses the SA1. I'm not exactly sure what that chip does, but i'd bet pretty strongly that if you actually tried playing the game with those pins missing you'd run into a lot of crashing and stuff like that.
Someone better than me at this I think could give you better info.
Theoretically, I'd imagine it'd be possible to fix.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Yeah, when I first acquired this particular cartridge I played it a little, even before I noticed it was damaged. I didn't encounter any scrambled graphics or anything, but I wasn't sure if something would pop up in a particular part of the game or something. I played this game already though a couple of years ago and I just can't see myself playing all the way through it again. Mostly just curious if it's doomed. hahaAppleQueso wrote:Yeah that uses the SA1. Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I'm amazed the game works at all. I don't think the game would even boot up with out the SA-1 connected. If the cart's working somehow, then I'd guess it's going to keep working. Battles and everything work right?
Maybe there's just enough of the contacts left to connect.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Just realized that last post was potentially confusing. When I played the game all the way through it was on a different cartridge, not the damaged one. I just stated that to explain why I have no real desire to play the entire game again on this cartridge just to see if it works. But yeah, like I said, I have had no problems with the damaged one so far. To answer your question DinnerX, yeah the battles and everything are fine (so far).

Maybe the intact side's the one with the contact that sends the "yes, the chip is present and this isn't being played on a knockoff console" signal.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
If I recall correctly, the game is fairly effects heavy though, so I think it'd crash shortly after harper started it if the data side wasn't connected.GameMasterGuy wrote:Maybe the intact side's the one with the contact that sends the "yes, the chip is present and this isn't being played on a knockoff console" signal.
The snes connector could grip fairly high up on the contacts or even past them. I don't have one to check though.
