Aren't the shorts always great?

As long as they aren't kicking the back of my seat, I kind of enjoy the chatter from kids (during films for kids).
They are great, but I think this is probably one of my favorites.

And I'm not saying they were dead silent during the movie. They reacted to what was on screen just like everybody else in the theatre. I, too, like that part of the movie going experience. It's just that they were really loud before the movie and then calmed down significantly when it started. The parents didn't even have to "shush" them to do it. I was a little impressed.

Was the short better than Presto? That's my favorite one so far. That, or maybe Boundin'.

I liked it more than Boundin', but Presto....hm, that's a tough call. It's hard for me to pick a favorite short. I'm partial to Partly Cloudy, myself.

Overall I enjoyed it, but if I had to rank it within the Pixar catalogue I'd place it smack dab in the middle.
I shouldn't, but I expect a lot from Pixar. BRAVE didn't deliver the usual wit and connection with characters that it usually does. I'd put it lower on my list than Michi simply for the fact the lead is whiny and unlikable most of the time. Also expected better writing, as somethings really had me scratching my head. Sloppy stuff.

Still it is entertaining and has its moments, but Pixar dropped the ball on this one.

Have you watched the movies in question? I haven't even mentioned FRIENDS WITH KIDS, which watching is more than likely the equivalent of having to eat a shit sandwich.

There have been great movies this year, but overall I have been disappointed in quality. Marvel's THE AVENGERS and RAID: THE REDEMPTION make up for it though, and I expect THE EXPENDABLES II and RISES to also kick serious ass.

And again, I just expected better from Pixar. Praise is worthy when it is due, but there have been a lot of bad movies with terrible writing this year with characters who simply wander around without a brain. So many movies this year have lacked any depth besides what viewers read way too far into (prometheus) and no one wants to see a movie they think they'll love and come out saying "well, that was stupid". Cognitive dissonance is a bitch.

Not trying to be negative, just honest.

To end this on a somewhat happy note YESTERDAY (2004) left me awestruck. It does something that a lot of the movies I've seen this year don't do, invoke emotion. Not saying that PRECIOUS ripped of YESTERDAY dane cook style, or that YESTERDAY's premise is completely original; but holy shit does this movie take you on an emotional roller coaster.

I highly encourage any International/Indy film fan to put YESTERDAY on your queue, as it's one of those movies that even if you have to pee you don't want to pause to take a break.

But yeah, we're already over half way into 2012, and there have been a ton of stinkers.

I'm currently watching District B13, took a break to pour myself a drink. It's a pretty bad ass movie so far. Parkour, shoot outs, and martial arts. That's just in the first thirty minutes of the movie! Parkour! That's not something I'm accustomed to seeing in my action movies. It is a French movie though

District B13

Pretty cool movie, some fantastic action scenes and stunts. If you liked Ong Bak, imagine that but with lots of shooting and a big emphasis on parkour. Don't expect a deep plot or amazing acting though. The movie is just a showcase for the stunts and the fights, like most movies Luc Besson is involved with. It's that same formula, which most of the action scenes punctuated by some hip hop, urban sounding music that I guess is supposed to be cool. This movie has a buddy cop formula to it as well, and it works.

As I understand it, David Belle is the founder of parkour, or at least one of them. So if any of you are into that, I'd guess that this movie is required viewing. Being a gamer, I kept thinking of Prince of Persia and Mirror's Edge while seeing some of the stunts he was pulling off

Can't not think of Dwight Shrute screaming "Hard Core Parkour!" when you mention parkour, or "jumping" as a lot of people call it.

I think it was in SUPERCOP where Jackie Chan wore a fake "sneaker" over a cast, finishing the movie and the majority of the stunts with a broken foot after falling short of a jump; that man is amazing.

Speaking of, I would love another Jacki Chan film, or at least a cameo in the new Expendables. That or pass the torch by choreographing fighting scenes and training someone who isn't jayden smith.

Did you see him in Shaolin last year? It's a bit of a spoiler, but he gets to show off some moves in one scene and the funny thing is that throughout the movie he denies knowing kung fu
