The PS4 costs $381 to produce

Well, so what? Most game companies sell their consoles at a loss or near-loss and then recoup the costs with software, online services, and accessories. Look at the PS2 and PS3, same deal.

Seems more like the point is the opposite. Sony isn't losing much money per PS4 compared to the hundreds per PS3 at launch.

Well, the PS3 was extremely expensive to produce in the mid-2000s, considering it had PS2 backwards-compatibility, an expensive blu-ray drive, and tons of USB ports. If Sony really is making a profit, no matter how small, they obviously learned their lessons well.

I can be wrong , but if my calculations is right ... according to the numbers given that we estimate that the ps4 will sell at least 50m during its lifetime ... Sony is looking to make $1b out the PS4 hardware sales , not considering sales of extra controllers . Does not sound like a bad business for me at all...

PS3 had 256mb RAM (very very low even for 2007), yet it produces beautiful looking games like Red Dead Redemption . The New PS4 has 8GB RAM , thats like 32x PS3's ram. Obviously thats a huge jump. Can any one tell us what this means for the gamers? What should we expect to see new in games?

I hope its not super extra details in texture that we will have to zoom 50X to see it.

Great chance this Black Friday to get a year membership of PS Plus for only $29! It seems they have a deal for this service every year during this time!

Well more detailed textures is certainly one thing, but that's honestly the least of it. More RAM basically translates to better processing power. Faster loading times, higher and more consistent framerates, longer draw distances, etc.

It's a really good thing for the PS4 to have 8 GB's of RAM because, as you may remember, when it came to multiplatform releases the PS3 was usually on the receiving end of the poorer ports due to problems like a worse framerate and longer loading times. See a comparison of the 360 and PS3 versions of Bayonetta for a perfect example.

Having all that RAM will make sure that the PS4 never has those same problems (At least in comparison to XBOne versions of games, it's yet to be seen how it will fair against PC versions). Also currently there are no video games in existence which require more than 8 GB's of RAM to run at their highest capability, and most will be able to max out at only 6 GB's. Though in the next couple of years it's a possibility this may start to change.

I'm more shocked at the way Wii-Us seem to be dropping in price - 209.99 for the basic white model. Pretty friggin' reasonable compared to the PS4 and XB1.

That should worry Nintendo fans. $200 for a console launched in 2013 is very low and I doubt its higher than manufacturing cost given it has a separate touch-screen tablet. I mean, the ps3 is still $250 on Amazon .

Far as I know that'd be a clearance price. Nintendo only lists the 8GB model as part of the Skylanders bundle. As it was, there were few reasons to buy the low end model.
