My post was not directed at you or your comments. I didn't say all males have it easier but statistically it is harder for women to escape,

Rape is about emotional pressure. Rapists target people who have weak points, cause they know it's more likely they'd get away with it. If you rape a confident person he/she is much more likely to go straight to the police.

Being abused has nothing to do with sex, it has to do with the position you're in and as General_Norris has said they way you talk is insensitive.

Edited to tone it down

I don't see pep's replies as directed towards Ack in any negative or direct way, and he's taken pains to show as much. You guys are being dicks towards him, though.

He is right to the extent that formal and informal social codes make it harder for men to seek relief from abuse than women, which is also part of the reason it is reported less. It's also true that most strains of feminism advocate for anti-violence and safety for all, regardless of sex or gender, and thus is working to help all abuse victims.

That said, globally there are more customs and actual laws that encourage and enable female abuse, so on that score it is the larger problem. Saying as much doesn't diminish abuse of males, but there's good reason that abuse movements are more intensely focused on women than men. That doesn't make them insensitive or anti-male, it makes them focused on what is statistically the larger problem.

When people start throwing around terms like Patriarchy and Rape Culture unironically that's a pretty good sign that things have become ridiculous.

Let's go back to world news maybe?

Ms Le Pen, who also stood for president in 2012, said if the allegations were true, Mr Sarkozy should have been disqualified from the election.

Outlining her plans, she said she wanted an end to some of the EU's most high-profile policies, such as freedom of movement and the euro.

She also called on Mr Hollande to halt the proposed US-EU trade pact; veto Turkey joining the EU; and nationalise the French energy company Alstom.

Glad to see she has such a forward thinking way of doing things.

Both things exist, so I am not sure why they can only be discussed "ironically".

Patriarchy is simply the idea that historically social institutions have empowered men over women and that the legacy and logics of that history are still felt to various degrees today. That's not really debatable, nor is it a joke/myth.

Rape culture is simply the idea that rape is diminished or even encouraged by particular parts of human culture (whether that be certain ideologies, certain media, certain subcultures or traditions, etc.). Again, given the "explanations" for rape by both men and women rapists and the narratives of shame and frustration provided by so many victims, it isn't really a debate that aspects of culture can be categorized this way.

Didn't George Lucas supposedly rape a bunch of nerds' "childhood(s)"? Maybe THAT is the issue that needs to be addressed.

I got so used to that feeling I don't even notice anymore. I fully expect every new bit of Star Wars to retroactively ruin the whole thing for me.

Putin signs economic union deal with ex-Soviet states

It will come into force on 1 January, once it has been ratified by the three countries' parliaments, and aims to guarantee free movement of goods, services, capital and labour, as well as co-ordinated policy in major economic sectors.

Why do none of those words/aims sound like Russia?

Between them, the three states have a combined GDP of about $2.7tn (£1.6tn; 2tn euros)

So not even as big as France.....good for them :)

"We lost some along the way: I mean Ukraine," President Lukashenko said at the signing ceremony. "I am sure that sooner or later the Ukrainian leadership will realise where its fortune lies."

ooh I'm pretty sure he means it the same way Czechoslovakia and Hungary "realized" where their fortunes lied during the cold war.
