Well, like I said, some benchmarks seem to be all over the place. I'm wondering if its those specific cards and they're using bare bones 780 reference.
More benchmarks are out and the actual review benchmarks (as opposed to some guy on YouTube) make the GTX 970 look like it's about in line with the GTX 780 and the R9 290X. (Which is awesome, considering how much cheaper it is)
Almost every benchmark, the 780 and 970 are within 3fps of each other, it seems to be a pretty even split over which is on top.
The R9 290X looks like it bounces around to being 10 fps lower than other of those cards and then in a couple cases being 5 fps higher.
And, the 980, in every benchmark I saw, it can't be touched. There was only one game where any card outperformed it and it was by like 2fps.
I'm curious to see EVGA GTX 970 FTW benchmarks, as that'll be one of the highest stock clocked cards. The EVGA GTX 970 SC is already out performing all the other 970s from what I saw.
But it's getting difficult to find accurate footage of games running with the card. Like I said, there's a guy who has Crysis 3 at 1440P running at 50-90FPS on the 970. But the benchmarks say, no, that should be 50FPS average. So, I don't know. Maybe they're just using the benchmarking utility in games and not doing real-world FPS tests in them?
There was another YouTube reviewer whom's average FPS on the 970 were abysmal.
I guess just wait until more real performance info comes out. I know, when I actually run games I'm usually getting much better performance than places like Tom's hardware tell me I should be getting.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I'm getting a little tired of seeing brand-new, single player games having season passes announced prior to release. Sunset Overdrive, The Evil Within, and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor all have season passes (that's just off the top of my head; I'm sure there are others).
I really don't mind optional dlc or map packs for multiplayer games but selling separate core content just rubs me the wrong way. Should you even buy these games at release? Wait a month or two, buy it at half-off, and then get the dlc for the full experience? Or should you just get the inevitable Greatest Hits/GotY/Complete edition for $25-30?

I don't know but I have never understood that about these heavily marketed games that tend to be the "best gaem evah!" by the mainstream
I'll stick to the games with out those thank you...my money doesn't go far as is anyways...

This. Honestly it's only for VERY few games (maybe 1 per year?) that I "can't wait" for a price fall.Opa Opa wrote:Or should you just get the inevitable Greatest Hits/GotY/Complete edition for $25-30?
That or if I feel it's going to sell out and become rare (I get that mostly for JRPGs)

Well jrpgs I feel don't have as much of a problem with that dlc thing(at least the ones i'm interested in anyways so they justify their price right about now...ZeroAX wrote:That or if I feel it's going to sell out and become rare (I get that mostly for JRPGs)

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
DLC is always a let down for me. Almost every time I have bought it I found myself thinking that it was too short or added nothing to the game. Whatever happened to just selling the game complete as it is. If you have more content then put it in the damn game or put it towards the next one to come out. Thankfully I bet I have less than 100 bucks in DLC that I have purchased in my life and most of that was from getting PSN cards for free through various methods.

I kind of feel this way about games that come out as "episodes."
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Yeah tell that to ghost trick which I'm going to ahve to hunt down the ds version if I ever want to play it again since I know it won't work on iOS8....TSTR wrote:I kind of feel this way about games that come out as "episodes."

I wonder which video game series most violates the laws of physics? Mario flagrantly ignores the conservation of mass, Sonic somehow runs at multiple times the speed of sound in an atmosphere without ripping himself to shreds. Link gets in line with the multiverse bits in quantum mechanics but then messes the whole thing up with waaay too many pre-destination paradoxes. Don't get me started on how every single character in Street Fighter should be a ticking atomic bomb given their ability to contain so much energy that they can cause it to arch from their bodies.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

^ Somewhat related, but as a big fan of track and field I always think about how many world records would be broken in video games. Mario is a chubby plumber but the gameplay of Super Mario Bros. tells me he would shatter the high jump, long jump, and virtually all running world records. Dunno about the pole vault, shot, or discus. He can throw those turtle shells pretty far but I'm not sure how much they weigh.
