EDIT: And I do believe I may have just provided the least popular opinion of all
Nerds and Bros can never get along. :P
I see you guys never saw the Revenge of the Nerds trilogy.
It's required by greek council to have seen every fraternity movie in existence

Hahaha, that was more to Violent By Design's comment, since by the end of Revenge of the Nerds, all the frat guys have become nerds.

Also, tank controls are actually quite good once you know what you are doing. They do allow for a level of precision I appreciate, and the games which use them are generally well thought out titles where the system works well. Yes, it takes some getting used to, but it is certainly not impossible. Just play the intro to RE2 over and over again until you learn how to avoid every zombie in the street before the gun store. Simple.

Playing a game with BAD tank controls will make you appreciate better done games like Resident Evil (and Deep Fear to give a saturn shoutout). Hylander on the Jaguar, for example. Decent 3D adventure game by the console's standards, but terrible controls compared to it's peers. It's all about how smoothly you rotate left and right, and Hylander, for example, will rotate your character about 70 degrees with each button tap. Holding the controller down is an exercise in frustration.

I still prefer traditional third person controls though. For that reason, the N64 port of RE2 is my port of choice, thanks to the true analog controls. The 3D NiGHTS pad is also what I use for deep fear.

I have and the only issue is that you spend far more ammo than you should.

But Fallout 3's combat was terrible. You had the choice between walking backwards while shooting or walking backwards while waiting for a bar to recharge, often both. Not very engaging, me thinks!

Ocarina of Time is boring.
While I disagree with you about Goldeneye, I completely agree with you about OOT. OOT was pretty but empty, and it was so obviously on rails its not even funny. Atleast in LTTP and WW they let you explore just to explore, in OOT they gave you an area and funneled you to the point. There was no getting around it, without glitches or cheats. That was disappointing to me back in 98 and it still is now. I still think it is better than Majoras Mask, but it is only a good game in my book, not a great one.

Now before people get on me about my on rails comment. In other Zelda titles you can maneuver around the overworld to a pretty good degree (obviously after you get through the tutorial area). Ie in Wind Waker when you get the boat you can go to the next dungeon or go to a random island. It was not: point a to point b to point c, like OOT is most of the time. OOT only really opens up once you become adult Link and get Epona - and even then you only have alittle freedom to go different places since there are so few places to go.

Ill second that ^^

One of the Main reasons I really enjoyed RE Revelations, was because it had tank controls. I bought the 3D circle pad and tried it with two analog sticks, and it play like S***, sorry for the crude language but tank controls in a sense add to the suspense and fear of the game. For example in Silent Hill 1-3, I was petrified of enemy encounters because I didn't feel comfortable with maneuvering the character under pressure, which in turn caused me to play in a cautious manner and not like a cowboy like most games accustom players to.

LONG LIVE TANK CONTROLS :D

I think the "bro" hate dates back to school. I know more than a few us (me included) were probably considered nerds or geeks in high school. And a lot of us that were, didn't always get along with the jocks. So I think some people still have a little animosity left.

What are "tank controls"? From what I can tell they're simply synonymous with "shitty controls".
