I'm going to finish Final Fantasy IV Advance before the end of summer if it kills me.
Well, I was right. That did take a while. I'm at the Save Point in the Cave of Trials, in the middle of those five islands. I'm assuming there are some bosses where those nice looking items seem to be, because, really, it can't be that easy to just go through the cave and pick them up. I'll save those for later, though. Those last couple of floors were a bit harsh on me. I'm just glad the characters I swapped out are all evenly leveled :D Now I don't have to grind like I did when I picked up Edge.

Final Fantasy IV Advance
Cave of Trials is complete 8) Not that I'll be using any of the characters that got shiny new weapons, but it was still a fun little diversion.

Right now I'm sitting in the middle of the Moon getting ready to head to the Crystal Palace and, what I assume to be, the final battle. I expect a difficult dungeon lies ahead of me. I'm looking forward to it

My attempt to beat Donkey Kong 64 on my own has been put on indefinite hiatus due to that DAMN NINTENDO COIN!

So just about a month until the official end of summer, and this year has been an almost total bust for me. I might try to get a few of these finished still, but here's where I am:

1. Capcom vs SNK 2 EO - beat Arcade mode on my first credit ever trying the game. Easy and not too interesting.

2. Super Metroid - haven't popped this into the system.

3. Diablo II - finished most of first of four Acts but discovered that you can lose everything when you die, which sucks. I would like to get back into this, but I really liked Diablo 3 so much more that this feels like a major step back.

4. Steel Battalion - Haven't fired it up.

5. Star Fox - This one I really should be able to beat since it only takes a short while. I played it a bunch one day and then almost not at all since. I got to the final level a few times and then died.

6. Time Crisis - I can get to the last act of this one, but too often I'll have a good run and encounter a bug where someone is just off screen for my calibration and then I don't have enough lives to continue when I get to the end. Frustrating. :(

7. Sly Cooper - I'm somewhere around 25% for this game and have generally enjoyed it. I don't know why I haven't been more tenacious in playing it, though.

8. Panzer Dragoon Orta - Haven't fired it up.

9. Final Fantasy IV - Came out the gate charging with this one and beat it. Found it to be an average FF game at best due to a poor final 1/3.

10. Road and Track Presents: The Need for Speed - I don't think I can really beat this one in any traditional sense, so I suppose I can count it as "experienced" and cross it off the list if I feel so inclined. I wasn't super impressed with it, and the series clearly improved by leaps and bounds as it went.

The shmups competition has eaten into some of my game playing time this last month - and I have enjoyed playing those instead. I think I probably needed to play more portable titles, as I have been less fixed in front of a TV this summer than in those past.

That said, despite a lackluster performance so far, I am starting to finalize a list for the "month of horror" which I am very much looking forward to, probably much more than this summer list. :?

Your body drops to the ground with your inventory if you die, as well as losing experience and a percentage of your gold. If you go retrieve your corpse where you died, you get your items and most of your gold back. If you quit, your body will be in town to retrieve next time you start the game with your items but *not* the rest of your gold.

If you die while trying to retrieve your corpse, you need to collect your items from the first corpse.

I'm still willing to help you finish if you catch me.

Both the Nintendo Coin and the Rareware Coin are necessary collectables to beat the game in DK64. Getting the Rareware Coin isn't all that hard: You just need to get a high score of 5000 in a port of the game Jetpac. But, to get the Nintendo Coin, you need to beat a port of the Donkey Kong Arcade game twice, without dying! I spent three whole hours trying to do this yesterday, and I only got to the 3rd stage on my first run through.

So I'm in the Lunar Subterrane in Final Fantasy IV Advance. The first thing that comes to mind is
Gah!

Now that that's off my chest, I've got to say that it's really not as bad as I thought it'd be.
The enemies aren't necessarily hard, they just hit hard. It's gotten better though, now that I've picked up some new equipment. My levels have jumped a good chunk too, since I haven't been running from much. Everyone's close to Level 60 now. Looking at a map (because towards the end there I really wanted to know if there was a save point close by  ), I guestimate that I'm about half way through. Good times.

The summer "ends" at any reasonable date you decide. I go from "when I am done courses" in May to "when Summer officially ends on the calendar" in late September to give myself a bit more time.
