I guess this could go in the wrestling thread, but anyway... Had a Goose Island 312 last night with dinner, and when my glass was empty I stood up and did my best Rybeck impersonation: "BEER. ME. MORE! BEER, ME, MORE! BEER ME MORE!" all while stomping around my kitchen table.

My wife looked me in the eyes, shook her head, and said "You're an idiot".

I don't get why people like beer so much- I don't really like the taste.

I've always heard that it tastes better the more you drink, but honestly, I'd rather just drink liquor or wine, seeing as they actually taste good, and not like wet wheat.

I agree with this for the most part. Some beer can actually taste pretty good, but I rather just not drink it at all. Why would I force myself to like something? Just so I can have a brewski with the guys? What guys and why can't I just drink something that tastes good instead??

I only drink once every two years or so. I'm not really big on it, and don't really see the point.

To some, the love of beer (or whiskey, or even cigars) just comes naturally. No forcing involved.

I also enjoy a wonderful beer, but it comes down entirely to what you drink. There are quite a few beer fans on the forum, with a wide variety of tastes. To hear someone say they dislike beer immediately makes me wonder what they were drinking.

For instance, if you are saying you dislike beer but your only reference point are extremely cheap (in price and in taste) beers like Natural Light, Coors, Milwaukee's Best, Keystone, Budweiser, Michelob, etc., then I'd say you dislike some of the common massmarket lagers, but those are hardly representative of the vast array of possibilities with beer.

For instance, I enjoy porters and stouts, along with the occasional wheat beer. Ales and lagers are ok from time to time, but I dislike the heavy spice of hops in IPAs or similar types. For me, a good oatmeal stout or chocolate stout is the perfect way to end a day or following a meal. And a chocolate stout is an astounding dessert (yes, you can drink beer for dessert. Follow a nice meal with something like a Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout some time to see what I mean. I say that one because the chocoloate flavor is heavily present).

I would have trouble trusting a man that didn't enjoy a good oatmeal stout.

Can't really speak for Jinx, but I do agree that I don't partiality care for beer. However, I've only drank the cheap ones and the standard Abita Beer (which wasn't bad, just not something I would drink again if other options were available). We aren't really big drinkers to begin with, Jinx just doesn't like it and I just get stupid.

I would be more than willing to try brands that actually put effort into brewing their beverages. We have a few friends who home brew, and Abita Beer has a larger variety of flavors available to us because we are familiar to the area.

What would y'all suggest? With vacation coming up, I can see us just chilling around a bonfire with a cold one, as long as it tastes good.

Wish I could offer a suggestion, but I have no clue what you like.

What I can suggest is to read the label. Again, read the label.

Like wine, you'll like what you like no matter the "value". Do I like Natural Light? Nerp. Nerp nerp nerp. But some people do. And most of my friends aren't crazy about Fat Tire, but I enjoy it.

That's part of the fun; trying new beers and finding what suits you.
