I also keep *trying* to play Crystalis (NES) but it's so frustrating. Having to line up perfectly with the enemies to strike them with your sword. It's a good thing I figured out you can throw your sword. It helps. Slightly. The furthest I've gotten in this game is the first...mini boss? Or is he an actual boss? Idk, but after failing to beat him about five times I decided to go back and try to level up some. Which has only resulted in more frustration. I like this game, I do. Or I want to anyway. But it literally has me rolling my eyes at my tv.
What are you playing?
Re: What are you playing?
I started playing Super Paper Mario again. I don't think I ever actually beat it the first time I played. Probably because I was bored out of my freakin mind. Not challenging in the least.

Started playing Puyo Puyo Tetris (Switch). This game has a lot of modes. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of the one where more than 2 Puyos come down at once. I have a really hard time with creating combos when those get tossed in. The mode that swaps between Puyo Puyo and Tetris is very fun.
Playing through the adventure mode made me realize, wow, I’m awful at both Puyo Puyo and Tetris. I was really bad at Tetris until I went into the tutorials and learned about getting a combo when you clear lines on successive moves. I couldn’t understand how the computer was sending so many gray blocks my way and I was only able to when I got a Tetris. Did combos always exist in Tetris? As in, if I cleared blocks in successive moves in the NES or Game Boy Tetris, would there be a point bonus? I always just tried to clear 4 lines at once with the straight piece. I never got any more creative than that.

Re: What are you playing?
I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed II: Discovery on Nintendo DS. I should clarify that Assassin's Creed is one of the 'no excuses' series that I enjoy; meaning I won't attempt to make excuses about why I enjoy it. Is it a series guilty of many of the issues it's accused of? Probably. Does my enjoyment of it mean that I have terrible taste in games? Maybe. Do I really GaF? Nope.
Maybe it's just a guilty pleasure.
At any rate, ACII: Discovery is simultaneously better and worse than I thought it would be. The story is actually quite interesting insofar as it sees Ezio traveling to renaissance Spain where he interacts with principle figures in the court of Queen Isabella I, as well as members of the Catholic Church involved in the Spanish Inquisition (which one obviously never expects
). It also makes reference to Christopher Columbus which in turn provides some interesting foreshadowing of AC games taking place in the 'New World'.
The gameplay is such a mixed bag though. Unfortunately it's also more bad than good. It's a 2D side-scroller that emphasizes speed and momentum to the point that it almost feels like a Sonic game at certain points (if you can believe that!). That part can be a lot of fun once you're dialed in, but the momentum is so touchy that it also leads to a whole host of other issues that are decidedly not fun. Furthermore it's extremely strict about requirements for full synchronization. One could probably achieve full synchronization if you were to spend significant time memorizing level layouts, but unfortunately the game just isn't good or fun enough to make that seem tempting. Ultimately I'm just charging through this one so I can chalk it up in the 'beaten' column and move on without looking back.

When I have had time to play, I've been continuing my Perfect Dark, Perfect Agent playthru. Mission 7 is tough cuz the enemies have shields and goddamn K7's which quickly tear Jo a new one. And it seems like near the end the enemies keep spawning. I got to the end last night a couple times but the Mr. Blondes ended me before I got to the evac zone. This mission is a lot more difficult than on Secret Agent.
I also got around to trying Split/Second. It reminds me of Burnout mixed with a cart racer's shenanigans. I look forward to playing this more.

I (very briefly) started Galaxy on Fire II on Steam last night. I'm also about 2/3 of the way through Vakyrie Drive on Vita, and I'm gonna start Final Fantasy Legend on Game Boy in the next couple days.

Cybernator.
Loving it. Not as good as Leynos but still great. I may target Metal Warriors next. Gives me all the mecha games right now! In such a mecha mood and trying Robotech again on Netflix.

Playing some X-com: Enemy Unknown with The Final Mod Pack mod! I've been watching a TON of vods of it, so I think it's about time I give it a shot myself
Elkin convinced me to do a Racketboy-based naming theme for my soldiers, so perhaps expect some stories about incredible heroics and horrible death in the RPG progress thread soon X3
