Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
yeah once I started playing I realized the demo was its own thing. Which is kind of neat. Though, I'm not sure I'm too sold on this one now that I'm actually playing it. I suppose the battle system COULD be really interesting... but I haven't figured out if it is yet.MrPopo wrote: The demo is long enough that you'll have played with the mechanics enough to determine whether you like the game or not. The demo save will give you some items for the full game, but the demo starts at the second chapter with its own story that's not related to the main story of the game; it's basically a spoilerless demo.

What Square does to Final Fantasy is the same thing as what Capcom did to Megaman. I use the past tense to describe Capcom's actions as that series is truly and thoroughly dead. I won't ascribe to any infantile notion that company's owe their customers anything as noble as responsibly curating their beloved franchises but cashing in on a name to try and force short term sales is bad business.ZeroAX wrote: Just to be clear, are you against Megaman style milking (tons of same-y sequels) or Mario type milking (regardless of the fact that most Nintendo games are very high quality, it IS annoying for me that they feel they need to use the Mario branding on EVERY single game they make (they even wanted to use Mario in Splatoon at first :S)
Nintendo, on the other hand, is in a very unique position. They get to break the very rule I just spelled out but that's because of one very important reason: 9 times out of 10, anything they release with Mario, Samus, Link, or Kirby slapped on the front cover is a solid, quality product that will stand the test of time. Mario Bros 2 is just as playable today after umpteen sequels as it was back in 1989. Even after all this time, the spirit of their games is still present and healthy. There has been a little bit of cashing in here or there but compared to the way their peers have ravaged their classic franchises, Nintendo has acted like a saint.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I disagree. Capcom just milked out sequels. There were very few games that used Megaman without actually having anything to do with Megaman (Megaman Soccer only springs to mind). Square would stick the Final Fantasy name to anything, and even make "spin-offs" that had nothing to do with the series (Dirge of Cerberus)Flake wrote: What Square does to Final Fantasy is the same thing as what Capcom did to Megaman. I know milking out sequels is milking, but at least with Megaman they were consistent. FF XV doesn't resemble FF in any way anymore :/

I'm much more harsh on Capcom than you are, apparently. The entire battle network series, starforce, the half-hearted attempts at a Zero series sequel that ZX was, and all X-games after X5 may have had Megaman on the cover but they were truly shitty products that sullied the brand. Half of the Megaman franchise is responsible for the entire death of the series.ZeroAX wrote: I disagree. Capcom just milked out sequels. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Ok Battle Network was a spin-off that really didn't need the Megaman branding, I agree with you there. Though it was made by Kenji Inafune himself. I wouldn't call the series bad, but it didn't need the Megaman branding (other than for marketing reasons) and the 7 sequels did kill it for me. Starforce is just the 3D version of that series, is it not?Flake wrote: I'm much more harsh on Capcom than you are, apparently. Yeah I will also not defend ZX and I have no idea what went so bad with those games, but again they were designed by Inafune.
X6-8 I agree weren't good, and they are the only ones I can blame Capcom for. The rest....it's just the main designer behind the series trying out new things....some times they work (Megaman Legends), sometimes they fail miserably.
But at least ZX and X 6-8 were in the same genre. FF XV is a hack and slash game now. Why does Square need such a game? Wasn't Kingdom Hearts enough? Why turn FF into KH WITHOUT the Disney characters?

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Still, the amount of money poured into the XIII trilogy is probably 5x that than the total of any and all "bad" Megaman games out there combined.
There are dozens of crappy Square games out there too, Final Fantasy easily included.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
This one confounds me:
Blitz: The League (2006) and Blitz: The League II (2008) on last gen consoles (only II made it to PS3 of course) still run for $18 and $30 respectively at GameStop. $29.99 for a six year old niche football game! They haven't reduced this price in years - although to be fair, the eBay market is seemingly in line.
