Nope, suburbs. If anything, I'd say the city would have more animal deaths, with more squirrels in traffic and whatnot. I've only seen them already dead on the side of the road, myself and my parents love animals and usually slow down for them if they're crossing the road.Hobie-wan wrote:Do you live in the city? Went on a hike to Mt Watatic. One of the trails was flooded because of a beaver dam. Saw the actual beaver swimming around pushing sticks.
There are a couple of drain culverts that are plugged by the beavers. Amazing what they can do.

No it didn't bother me all that much for some reason, but it has sure as hell made me think twice about getting my motorcycle license. I also witnessed a woman get taken out by a car after stupidly running through the street in Chinatown. I've seen a good deal of dead bodies at funerals and such, open casket just baffles my mind. No idea what the point is.AznKhmerBoi wrote:geeesh, i take it your traumatize from that. I think if i ever witness something like that i would never get a motocyle and would always use my seatbelt all the time.
I'd have to say finding a dead body was more shocking for me than watching someone die. My friend and I walked into his house one day to find his dad dead on the floor (heart attack) and my dad and I found my grandma dead in her apartment a few days after she passed (brain hemorrhage), that's probably the single most gruesome thing I'll ever see. And oh god the smell, I'm not sure which was worse.

My mother was open casket so we kids could say our final good-byes and have one last memory of her. What's so wrong with that?brunoafh wrote:I've seen a good deal of dead bodies at funerals and such, open casket just baffles my mind. No idea what the point is.

Well hey nothing at all, if that's what suits you, that's fine. I wasn't meaning to offend anyone. Just personally, the dead body isn't the person anymore and the whole procedure that takes place to make the body viewable is weird to me. I wouldn't want it done at my funeral.o.pwuaioc wrote:My mother was open casket so we kids could say our final good-byes and have one last memory of her. What's so wrong with that?

(Definitely was not offended.) It is a bit weird, but I too would not want that to happen to me (cryogenics ftw), but I don't think it's so strange to give the family and dear friends one last look for posterity's sake. What's messed up, though, are the open caskets for fetuses or stillborns...brunoafh wrote:Well hey nothing at all, if that's what suits you, that's fine. I wasn't meaning to offend anyone. My grandfather's funeral was a wake. I saw him right after he died, and seeing him right afterward all fixed up in a casket was just as chilling, if not more so. I understand the whole idea behind it, but personally I found it to be a very, very unpleasant experience. I couldn't even bare to look at him.

Thats... not right. Stillborns and fetuses shouldn't be shown like that.o.pwuaioc wrote:(Definitely was not offended.) All the funerals I've been to have had viewings, and I've never questioned it. just a chance to say goodbye one more time.
Although, I was at a funeral where they hadn't closed the person's eyes, and that caused a problem. (The family members got a huge discount, but that doesn't make up for it.)

It boils down to this.brunoafh wrote: Well hey nothing at all, if that's what suits you, that's fine. I wasn't meaning to offend anyone.
My wife's assistant gave a stillborn birth, and died the next day. The funeral was open casket, with the wife (24) holding the still born baby. The image still haunts me, but you never know if that may have been her last wish. These decisions should be made and honored by the people who make them.
And by no means did your post offend me, and when I'm dead I say donate my organs and then throw me in an oven. I'll be dead, and I doubt I'll care. That said if my wife wants open casket, fine. But only if I'm having a good hair day.

Wait, there's a "don't close the eyes" discount?Forlorn Drifter wrote: Although, I was at a funeral where they hadn't closed the person's eyes, and that caused a problem. (The family members got a huge discount, but that doesn't make up for it.)
