FAO Noise (I won't quote your post!)

I agree with your sentiments towards Bulletproof Wallets. I remember getting that when it was new and being in the "this is garbage" camp, with songs named after strawberries and what not. I think in 2004 I was heavily in to stuff by Jedi Mind Tricks and Immortal Tech, I was still fucking with Wu-Tang, just not as heavily as I was at the turn of the milliennium. With regards to dodgy tracklistings, didn't Supreme Clientele also fail to match what was actually on the CD? There was some nice tracks on there (Maxine, as you say) but one of his more forgettable efforts.

I wasn't ever in to G-Unit, I only listened to 50 if he was using a Dre beat lol. I think Beg For Mercy had some bangers on it though. Poppin Them Thangs was a scorcher, that much I do know!

GZA's Liquid Swords is a bonified classic, but I have to admit, it's not great for listening to in the car, or sticking on shuffle on your MP3/phone. Them spooky martial arts samples were great for setting a mood but became irritating after a while - like listening to Enter the Wu-Tang except they stuck stuff like the torture skit at the end of tracks. I still rate Liquid Swords as my favourite Wu solo album though, there's not a bad track on there.

I've not heard of Ratatat, but I'm going to check that out. Having heard the new Dilated Peoples album, and going back through the DJ Babu series of Duck Season albums, I'm yearning for that scratched mixtape/CD that has become so rare nowadays. Remember Rhettmatic's Exclusive Collection? the Soundbombing trilogy? The DJ Yoda albums? I suppose it's fallen in line with the decline of the album, as they were designed to be listened to without skipping songs. Maybe we should collate a list of mixed albums like them?

yeah Supreme was messed up tracklisting as well. Although, I feel like the tracklisting just didn't have skits and stuff listed if I recall? I can't remember. BW actually listed songs in the sleeve that didn't even make it to the album. A mess.

I was never a G-Unit fan, and in fact had not heard this album until this week. 100% serious. But I always half-liked 50. And I liked Young Buck a lot. And love The Game. Now that I've heard this and put myself into the context of when it was released, I think it's really impressive and good.

There's no DJ cuts on this. It's all production.

But I hear you. Those Sound Bombing CD's for sure. I used to love Funk Master Flex's 60 Minutes Of Funk series for instance.

Ragga/Dancehall MCs also sound incredibly good over cut-up amen breaks, which I provided multiple examples of in this earlier post.

thanks noise.

soundtrack sure was legit, the movie too. To me, it just had this grittiness to it. Well, I guess it would have. It was filmed in and around the "car theft capital of the world" at the time, Newark, NJ.
