I think images gets a pass in certain threads, like Games Beaten.

I notice most people here write their reviews more objectively, which I guess is ideal for putting them up on blogs and such too. Out of context from the forum. But yeah mine are just random jarble in comparison.

Hello!

Links to reviews I wrote of the first 3 games on your list! I only posted my Hammerin' Harry review like a week or two ago, but I used the Japanese title! Warning: They vary in quality (the reviews, not the games, they all rule):

Avenging Spirit: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... it#p526107

Bubble Ghost: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... t#p1026801

Hammerin' Harry: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... y#p1112132

TL;DR: Avenging spirit isn't perfect, but it is fun. Bubble Ghost is short but difficult and fun, and I love the soundtrack. Hammerin' Harry is a technical spectacular for the Game Boy, but it's old school hard, so probably right up your alley.

Keeping the handheld gaming going...

Link Between Worlds. What was everyone's thoughts on this one? I don't remember since I didn't pay much attention to handheld talk for ages.

The beginning was slow, I wanted something light to play on the weeknights this week but it took awhile to get going. Not that I mind that in 3D Zelda's, but I expected this to get going faster. I've now cleared the first dungeon though and can "rent" things. The renting is a lot weirder than I expected. So far... the game is really easy and I'm drowning in rupees. I just rented the entire store and I wonder if it'll ever be an issue. Seems like some key items and gear will still be rewarded from dungeons, but otherwise this gimmick just seems strange to me.

Digging the aesthetics. The art style is solid, great music, the classic Link to the Past noises tickle my funny bones, etc. It seems pretty neat, but I'm not totally blown away yet. Which is kind of what I was expecting since I haven't really enjoyed the handheld Zelda's much in a long time, but I think I already like this more than Minish Cap and Phantom Hourglass (didn't even bother to finish this one and never touched Spirit Tracks).

Did anyone have trouble with the joystick and this game? Sometimes my thumb starts slipping and Link will walk for a second until I correct it. Kind of weird, maybe I just need to get used to the weird joystick. But I had no issues with Samus Returns so I suspect it's the overhead view.

Oh boy this won't be a popular post, but I'll be honest at least.

I've owned A Link Between Worlds for years now, still haven't finished it. I don't remember how far I got, but I did finish a few dungeons. I think this is a good blankie game for Zelda lovers, but if someone's looking for something series' innovative, forget it. This game apes A Link to the Past too doggedly for my taste. And the one unique gameplay aspect, the sliding on walls mechanic, was IMO ripped straight out of Sideway: New York. Now it likely sounds like I'm saying A Link Between Worlds is a bad game. I am not saying that. I'm just saying the first few hours did not impress me, nor did they "hook" me enough to keep playing. If I wanted to play A Link to the Past again, I'd play A Link to the Past again. That said, it's possible the latter half of A Link Between Worlds comes into its own and becomes more impressive. Maybe I'll find out someday.

I more or less agree. It's not a brilliant game, but it's a good game. I really liked the idea of giving you the items immediately so you could have whole dungeons based around them, but that doesn't save it from being an otherwise fairly standard and fairly easy Zelda game. It's alright, but not a must-play by any means.

Hot damn.

Well I'm still more excited to replay OoT with the 3DS version, but yeah I figured I should check out the new game first.

Now I'm hesitating about revisiting Majora's Mask after these. I loved it at the time and did everything, but I'm suspecting it might be best left in the past like FF8 for me personally. Whenever I think of MM... all I picture is Link talking to hundreds of NPC's around the huge town and endless fetch quests. I don't even recall the time gimmick being much of an issue once you can slow down time and all, but yeah. It had four dungeons that were all awesome and pretty tough coming out of OoT, but that's it. Four dungeons. I still think MM is the game that changed the course of Zelda in a direction I didn't love, more fetch quests and NPC stuff started taking over from this point until Breath of the Wild. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword loaded up on the dungeons again though, so I still loved those. But I still like OoT the best since it has the least amount of NPC side quests.

I think I'll at least wait for it to hit the $20 price point like OoT 3DS.
